Job Description
We are looking for a hardworking Gas Technician to join the Xcel Energy team in Ironwood, Michigan! In this position you will be responsible for plastic pipe fusion, service regulators, odorization, meter and regulation, meter testing, tapping, operational surveys, customer priority work, fitting, and equipment operation. You must have the knowledge and ability to respond to gas leak (inside and outside) investigations and emergencies, gas leak repair, cathodic protection, locating, meter reading, valve maintenance, material handling, district regulator maintenance, instrument calibration, sizing, maintenance, and installation of meters and large regulators.
Successful candidate will be required to comply with the current residency policy and must live within 20 miles of the reporting headquarters. Relocation of the employee's household to the immediate area of the reporting headquarters is required within 6 months and will be the responsibility of the employee.

Minimum Requirements
Journeyman:
1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Must possess a valid CDL driver's license.
3. Three or more years Gas Construction and/or Gas service experience.
4. One or more years gas pipeline welding experience.
5. Must possess or obtain within one year of employment the 49CFR Part 192 Appendix C Weld Certification. Must also maintain certification throughout employment.
6. Able to lift 50 pounds safely.
Advanced Step Apprentice:
1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Must possess a valid CDL driver's license.
3. One or more years Gas Construction and/or Gas service experience desired.
4. One or more years gas pipeline welding experience desired.
5. Must pass and maintain the 49CFR Part 192 Appendix C Weld Certification within 1 year of employment.
6. Able to lift 50 pounds safely.
Special Requirements
1. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
2. Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships in a team-oriented environment.
3. Direct customer contact experience desirable.
4. Position is subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements
5. Pass the Gas Respirator Qualification test.
6. Subject to on-call duty on a rotating basis.
