Job Description

The Production Manager reports to the Central Machine Shop Manager and is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the Shop's production and operations in a safe, efficient and economical manner.

Establishes and maintains relationships and partnerships with internal and external customers and industry peers.

Responsible for establishing and maintaining AEP branding.

Provides leadership and manages change by the development of a culture that promotes and supports teamwork.

Assumes direct control of Shop in the Manager's absence or as assigned.


Provide overall administration and management of the following areas of the Shop's Production (PEM, Weld, NDE, Machine and Motor) and Planning Departments.

Support the System Safety Process. Develop, maintain and enforce safe working conditions by providing proper and adequate tools, equipment, protective clothing and devices. Participate in the setting of safety goals for an accident free work environment. Communicate to employees the importance of a safe work environment on a daily basis.

Execute special projects and assignments, provide reports, observations and recommendations regarding these projects/assignments to the Shop Manager.

Establish and maintain schedules and plans for the Shop's production departments that optimize resources and support the customer's needs and priorities.

Develop high quality relationships and partnerships with customers. Ensuring cooperation and coordination of work activities with internal and external customers.

Designate appropriate Shop representatives to coordinate work activities with customers. Verify that work is properly coordinated and information exchanged with concerned parties.

Ensure all Shop activities are in compliance with the company's quality assurance and quality control programs and policies. Monitor compliance of the QAJQC program and recommend improvements.

Ensure all Shop activities are in compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Advise, consult and assist the Shop Manager on developing and implementing effective Shop policies and practices.

Seek advice and guidance from employees to improve processes and performance by re-engineering work processes and eliminating unnecessary steps and approvals.

Assist in the preparation of required budgets, capital improvement requests and work orders. Approve authorized expenditures for production and repair activities.

Review incoming work requests and ensure that job orders, work scopes and other required processes are performed properly.

Ensure appropriate, complete and accurate records are maintained for all performed work.

Direct the housekeeping activities of the Shop to ensure compliance with F&HP housekeeping guidelines.

Direct and supervise the safety training of all assigned employees.

Engage in professional activities such as committees, societies and other groups having common interests with the Company.

Administer, in accordance with the Company's approved Human Resources policies and practices, employment, discipline, termination, transfer, and effective job performance review and salary administration program, including the development and implementation of planned performance objectives for assigned employees. Make recommendations concerning such matters for all assigned personnel.

Provide for development, training and effective utilization of subordinates through job assignments, training programs, Personal Development Plan, Educational Assistance Plan, etc. Ensure that proper qualifications and required certifications are kept up-to--date for assigned personnel.

Carry out within the assigned area of responsibility the Company's program of Equal Employment Opportunity, including its Affirmative Action obligations.

Assume the duties and authority of the Central Machine Shop Manager when assigned.

Perform work in accordance with the Corporate Code of Ethics.

Responsibilities include ensuring safe and proper safeguarding of the 230,000 square foot machine shop, and the housing of over 11 million dollars of equipment, (including most of the plants' spare parts: turbines, rotors, generator fields, and boiler feed pump assemblies).

Responsible for the operation of special processes as required by regulatory agencies.

Responsible for fulfilling the service hop needs of both internal and external customers.

Responsible for communicating and building our shared vision with employees, managers, customers, the general public, and governmental agencies. Competently speak before large groups, displaying solid platform and facilitation skills.

Responsible for facilitating group processes.

Responsible for managing change and leading employees to work as a team.

Must have the ability to immediately respond in a decisive manner in emergency situations.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Business Management or equivalent in job knowledge and experience.
Training should include Company courses in leadership, supervision, change management, team skills, problem solving & decision making, process improvement, safety, business skills and other relevant courses.

Experience- Minimum of ten years of experience including work in Central Machine Shop's production and planning departments, or plant operations, maintenance and performance areas. Experience should include some administration of human resources and business matters. A minimum of three years supervising others.

Travel required.
