Job Description

Perform, perform work in connection with the operation and maintenance of the coal unloading and conveying system and unskilled manual work in and about the plant yard, coal docks, and in buildings, as assigned.   Operate and maintain dozers, trucks, loaders, and other heavy equipment moving coal, lime, fly ash, bottom ash, and performing maintenance on conveyor system, chute work, and material handling system.   Operate coal car and lime car unloading equipment and perform maintenance on unloading equipment.
Perform cleaning work on the coal conveyor system, such as car dumpers,bunkers, runways, tripper room, belt decks, and lime unloading equipment.
Load, unload and handle coal, lime materials, supplies and equipment; where required, couple and uncouple railroad cars; set and release brakes, operate rail switches; signal locomotive operator when to start, stop, go forward or backward; and flag traffic at crossings.   Haul and move materials, supplies and equipment; cleaning work of all kinds in, around, and on equipment, buildings, and yard; clean and remove ashes and debris; cut grass and weeds; dig ditches; work on tracks and track beds; replace light bulbs and similar unskilled manual tasks.

Operate and perform maintenance on all coal yard related equipment.

Clean and perform lubrication on all equipment including conveyors, pumps, large motors and gearboxes and rolling stock.

Secure, identify and transport coal samples, as directed.

Inspect and test fire equipment. and properly document tests.

Operate automotive equipment.

Perform manual work.

Maintain equipment, tools and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.

Perform duties in accordance with Company's safety rules, operating regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices.

Report irregularities and abnormal conditions to the appropriate supervision.

Issue clearances, clear and tag equipment in coal yard area.

Assist in training other employees.

Assist employees as required.

Operate equipment as required.

Perform similar or less skilled work.

Document all required readings and daily activities.

Minimum Requirements

Associate degree in technical field,heavy equipment experience, or mechanical experience required.

Residency requirement is required for this position.

Must become familiar with the location and layout of coal-handling equipment
Must be able to understand and follow instructions and practices.
Must be able to use the tools and equipment required in the work
must have the physical capabilities to climb and work on or about plant equipment at various elevations
Must comply with all safety rules and regulations.



Respond to callouts to maintain and support business operational needs and schedules.



Must have mechanical aptitude and be capable of working on a wide variety of equipment such as large motors and gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, hydraulic systems, electrical controls (troubleshooting and maintenance), calibration and maintenance of weighing instrumentation and chute plugged switches, welding, cutting and fabrication, etc.



Successful completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test is required for this position.
