Perform work under the direction of others in the maintaining, repairing, inspecting, installing, rebuilding and construction of all types of power plant equipment and structures and correct the causes of trouble that develops in such equipment. Diagnose trouble, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment, pneumatic and hydraulic systems such as the repair and align turbine-generators and their components; overhaul boiler feed pumps and other types of pumps; inspect and rebuild air compressors; inspect boilers and boiler apparatus and report as necessary.
Operate machine shop and portable machine equipment such as lathes, shapers, drill presses, milling machines, boring bars and similar machining equipment to produce accurate tolerance on all shapes including those not readily machined on standard machine tools. Develop jigs and fixtures as necessary and perform precision fitting of component parts as required. Perform alignment on rotating equipment and other types of equipment. Use monitoring equipment such as vibration and thermal test equipment to assess equipment conditions.
Learn to perform heat treatment of metals such as tempering, case hardening, etc.
Assisst in Erection and removal scaffolding, rigging and blocking.
Operate automotive equipment and its associated equipment and perform duties incidental to the operation of such equipment.
Prepare and maintain records as required.
Maintain equipment, tools and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Perform duties in accordance with AEP safety rules, operating instructions, all applicable environmental and safety rules and regulations and current practices.
Report irregularities and abnormal conditions to the appropriate supervision.
Train for and carry out assignments in fire fighting, first aid and other emergency response programs as required. Assist employees as required.
Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned. This position is posted as a range: Machinist Apprentice 2nd Year (Salary grade S37) Machinist Apprentice 3rd Year (Salary grade S31 Machinist Apprentice 4th year (Salary grade S 22) Minimum Requirements Associate degree in technical field or equivalent education and/or experience.
Must possess the appropriate State driver's license. Must obtain and maintain all necessary certifications and licenses as required.
Respond to callouts to maintain and support business operational needs and schedules.
Successful completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test is required for this position. Successful candidtate must live or be willing to relocate within 60 minutes of the plant.
Machinist Apprentice 2nd yr. Must have performed the duties of Machinist Apprentice 1st year or equivalent and maintained all appropriate qualifications of Machinist Apprentice 1st year, or equivalent and must be able to pass an examination and /or demonstration as determined by the Company and in addition: Should have 2,000 hours of power plant experience or equivalent. Must understand the basic plant processes or equivalent processes. Must have a working knowledge and skill needed to safely work.
Machinist Apprentice 3rd year Must have performed the duties of Machinist Apprentice 2nd year or equivalent and maintained all appropriate qualifications of Machinist Apprentice 2nd year, or equivalent and must be able to pass an examination and /or demonstration as determined by the Company and in addition: Should have 4,000 hours of poser plant experience or equivalent.
Machinist Apprentice 4th year Must have performed the duties of Machinist Apprentice 3rd year or equivalent and maintained all appropriate qualifications of Machinist Apprentice 3rd year, or equivalent and must be able to pass an examination and /or demonstration as determined by the Company and in addition: Should have 6,000 hours of poser plant experience or equivalent.
