Responsibilities
Job Summary: Responsible for all operations functions of Units 17 and 18 at R. M. Schahfer Generating Station and the Norway and Oakdale Hydros in Monticello, Indiana, and their associated employees, equipment and processes. Responsible for maintenance functions at R. M. Schahfer Generating Station and associated employees, equipment, and processes. Responsible for managing relationships with other managers and plant support functions, engineering, planning, chemical and environmental, outage and technical support, business support services, fuel supply and dispatching. Collaborates with other Generation leadership to contribute to strategic oversight in the Generation business unit.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities Assure attainment of plant goals and other strategic business objectives while ensuring highest standards of safety within and around plant facilities and properties. Plan, organize and direct the operations, maintenance and coal handling functions to ensure the most effective return on assets while maintaining environmental compliance. Continually improve safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes. Initiate plans and processes to minimize operational costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials and capital. Establish group and individual accountabilities throughout assigned functions to ensure goals attainment. Participate in the budgeting process to ensure the company¿s resources are used to their maximum potential. Manage spending against budgets. Assure that collective bargaining agreements are effectively administered. Work to establish a high performance culture throughout assigned areas which includes all employees¿ positive involvement and opportunity for constructive input and action. Manage hiring of direct reports and assist with hiring in other functional areas within Generation when requested to obtain only the most skilled, qualified, accountable and highly motivated employees. Work to establish employee retention throughout assigned areas. Maintain individual skills, keeping up to date with latest utility industry and management concepts. Establish and leverage the benefits of employee diversity within the employee base.
Qualifications
Required for Selection: Must be able to communicate across all cultural and company boundaries. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, team building and negotiation skills are essential. The ability to coach, develop, and motivate management and bargaining unit employees. Knowledge of business administration, budgeting, computer and presentation skills. Knowledge of fossil station engineering, operations and maintenance.
Preferred for Selection: Familiar with vendor contract administration and liability. Knowledge of union contract administration and management. Working knowledge of human resources and labor law. Mental and physical stress management skills to deal effectively with pressures, timelines and budget constraints
Education Level
Required for Selection: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field. 7 or more years of experience in electric generation (working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, procedures, policies, federal and state regulations, electric power marketplace, and working knowledge of environmental regulations, constraints, remedies and permitting).
Preferred for Selection: Masters degree in Business Administration or professional engineering license.
Other Information
Office 60%, plant and other locations 40%; Hazards are those typical to plant/manufacturing sites. Overtime and on-call weekends should be expected.
