The AREVA Reactors & Services Business Group:
The Reactors and Services Business Group combines the nuclear reactor design and construction activities and the products and services activities necessary for the maintenance, operation, modernization, and improvement of power plants. It also includes vessel propulsion nuclear reactor and research reactor activities. AREVA is currently constructing four EPR™ reactors, of generation III .

Job Description:
AREVA is seeking a Detector R&D Cryogenic mechanical Engineer for our Canberra location in Meriden, CT.
Responsibilities and duties include:
  • Research and develop germanium and silicon gamma and x-ray radiation detector products based on miniature electro-mechanical cooling systems.
  • Under limited supervision perform germanium and silicon detector research & development, design, physical layout, testing, modeling, surface and material evaluation.
  • Specialize in developing products around miniature electro-mechanical cryogenic coolers.
  • Model vibration, thermal, and mechanical response of systems and develops noise mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluate and utilize processes, electronics, and electro-mechanical devices and systems comprising semiconductor manufacturing systems, Detector and MHV vacuum systems, cryogenic systems, and others.
  • Perform product development activities, including prototyping, implementation of customer specifications, and documentation requirements.
  • Conduct engineering studies and may assign work to technical staff.
  • Normally receives general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments.
  • Participate in the writing of proposals for research contracts and functions as a principle investigator or lead engineer on such contracts.
  • Carries out research with limited supervision.
  • Writes reports and on a routine basis gives topical presentations.
  • Participate and train within the framework of the AREVA GAPEXPERT program leading to integration as a Junior Expert into the AREVA Experts community. Attached to the DTRI AREVA/NC and seconded for 3 years at BUMN.
  • Travel to other manufacturing facilities of the BUMN, CANBERRA Detector Manufacturing sites (Meriden, CT - USA, Olen-Belgium, Lingolsheim-France).
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • PhD in Mechanical or Cryogenic Engineering or related Engineering discipline.
  • Two to four years mechanical or cryogenic engineering experience.
  • At least 2 years in cryogenic cooling and/or vacuum science.
TRAVEL
Sporadic (3-5%) domestic and international travel. Most travel is related to AREA GAPEXPERT training program. International travel is mostly or all to Western Europe, primarily France. Some travel may be expected to manufacturing sites in Olen, Belgium and Lingilsheim, France.
