The Fuel Field Services Team:
The Fuel Field Services team includes technical disciplines of Technicians, Engineers, Designers and Project Engineers supporting tool development and maintenance of inspection and repair equipment to service fuel and fuel related products operating out of the Mount Athos Road (MAR) facility in Lynchburg, VA as part of the Fuel Business Unit.
Job Description:
AREVA is seeking an Electrical/Controls Engineer for our Fuel Field Services Team. The individual will report directly to the Supervisor, Field Service Engineering.
Responsibilities and duties include:
  • Responsible for hardware and software design for instrument and control systems of fuel inspection equipment/tools, including all areas of the product lifecycle from specification, design, documentation, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, testing, delivery, training and installation support.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosis, modification and support of maintenance programs.
  • Assume responsibility for a tooling group to support an assigned field product function (such as post irradiation inspection services, fuel reconstitution and repair, sipping, etc.).
  • For the tooling/equipment design execution including conceptual development, R&D of First Of A Kind principals, Formal design using CAD software packages, detailed drawings, tolerance studies, design reviews, qualification, Implementation / startup of equipment, development of cost estimates, and execution schedules.
  • Clearly write equipment descriptions and equipment utilization procedures.
  • Provide training on procedures and equipment functions to peers and technicians, as needed.
  • Apply diverse knowledge of electrical engineering principals and practices to resolve issues, provide extensive planning, and coordination of work.
  • Working with the Field Service Operations/Facilities groups including long-term maintenance, product upgrades, repair, training and training/maintenance manual development.
  • Contribute to a variety of other emergent projects.
  • Overtime during peak workloads.
  • Preparation of cost and schedule input, and monitor both throughout the design effort.
  • Identify problems/risks in the design and fabrication processes, and to provide resolution, and prepare reports to management.
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • Engineer I: BS in Engineering/Engineering Technology plus 0 -2 years of engineering experience. In applicable states a PE license
    will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree.
  • Engineer II: BS in Engineering/Engineering Technology plus 2-3 years of engineering experience. In applicable states a PE license
    will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree.
  • Engineer III: BS in Engineering/Engineering Technology plus 3-5 years of engineering experience. In applicable states a PE license
    will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree.
  • Project engineering skills and related experience is required, so that existing projects can be assumed with a minimum of perturbation.
  • Accredited nondestructive examination Level I/II in eddy current and/or ultrasonic testing.
  • Strong background in CAD using, at a minimum, a 2D package for wiring and controls design.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, as well as strong written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to use standard Microsoft Office products.
  • Medically and physically qualified to work in a radiological contaminated area at commercial nuclear facilities and power plants worldwide.
  • Able to gain unescorted access at commercial nuclear power plants (subject to background investigation).
The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.
  • A thorough knowledge of basic nondestructive principles along with some mechanical equipment designed experience is preferred.
  • Experience in designing specialized remote production or field service tooling. (Electro-Mechanical background preferred.).
  • Experience with a solids modeling platform is a plus. (The FS department uses Pro/E).
  • PLC and computer programming experience.
TRAVEL
Sporadic domestic and international travel 10-25% of time.
