Solar Energy:

Job Description:
AREVA is seeking a Chemist for our Solar location in Mountain View, CA. You will contribute to the research and advanced development of solar selective optical coatings.
R&D Activities would include:
  • Electrochemical plating of various coating stacks.
  • Sol-gel formulation and application testing.
  • Maintenance and analysis of chemical baths.
  • Laboratory housekeeping, hazardous materials/waste handling.
  • Sample categorization and organization.
  • Accurate documentation of all work with detailed notes and internal reports.
  • Hands-on Work in the Lab (80% of time)
  • Produce solar selective coatings on a lab scale. (Internal Lab environment)
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • B.S. in Chemistry
  • One - three years of laboratory experience (could be in Lab environment within the University or in an industrial laboratory experience within a company).
  • Experience with:
    • Working with Instrumentation: UV-vis, FTIR optical spectrometers.
    • Titrations with chemicals.
    • Reflux reactions.
    • Preparing chemical standards/solutions/additions.
    • Dilutions from stock solutions.
    • Familiarity with glassware usage (pipettes, burets, volumetric glassware, etc).
    • Safe handling of chemicals.
  • Computer programming skills.
The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.
  • Matlab and labview experience.
  • Experience in electrochemistry.
  • Experience in thin film chemistry (specifically sol-gel).
  • Design of Experiment knowledge
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated trouble shooting and problem solving abilities.
TRAVEL
Sporadic (5%) domestic travel.
