Job Description:
AREVA is seeking a Coating Scientist for our Solar location in Mountain View, CA. You will contribute to the research and advanced development of solar selective optical coatings.
Responsibilities and duties include:
  • Preparing samples to collect data and the Collection and analysis of optical spectroscopy data from coatings.
  • Chemical and structural characterization of coatings.
  • Implementing data processing and data storage methods.
  • Sample categorization and organization.
  • Accurate documentation of all work with detailed notes and internal reports.
  • Perform experiments that test coating performance and degradation.
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry.
  • A minimum of one - three years of laboratory experience (in school through an internship with hands on work or in industrial lab setting).
  • Experience performing Optical spectroscopic measurements, e.g. UV-vis, FTIR, and willingness to do this as a large part of the position.
  • Materials characterization techniques (XRD, SEM, AFM, XPS, etc.).
  • Sample preparation for materials characterization (sectioning, surface prep., etching, etc.).
  • Computer programming skills.
  • Formal coursework in programming or documented experience in programming.
The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.
  • Matlab and Labview experience.
  • Knowledge of geometric optics theory (interference, diffraction, dispersion, etc.).
  • Design of Experiment knowledge.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated trouble shooting and problem solving abilities.
TRAVEL
Sporadic (5%) domestic travel.
