Overview: What's In It For You? The Safety Engineer is responsible for coordinating programs relating to overall Safety and Health compliance, response actions, incident investigation and implementation of company Safety and Health management system and policies. Duties will also include the preparation of site specific safety compliance training programs/modules, provide or work with the Training Coordinator to arrange for required safety training of station personnel, analysis of hazardous materials used or proposed for use at the site, inspections, and participation in accident investigations/root cause analysis of safety incidents, inspections, and audits, and filings under federal regulations.
Performance Objectives
2. Build relationships with the people who operate the plant. "Safety is a people business" - that's the motto of our safety organization at GenOn. To implement change, you have to know the methods that will be effective with those you're trying influence. This position places emphasis on the people side of safety.
3. Establish yourself as the subject matter expert on safety at the plant. It's helpful if you have prior power plant safety experience, but not required. We're looking for someone who can put safety knowledge and experience into practice.
4. You will assist with the combustible dust program. You'll need to develop knowledge of the OSHA standards and influence plant management to implement best practices within the plant.
5. Support the combination of various fleet safety programs. Work with the safety and health organization to integrate the best practices of both companies to foster a strong safety culture in every location.
We're looking for a candidate with five to ten years in industrial safety, preferably in a power plant environment (oil refinery or chemical processing plant backgrounds are also welcome to apply).
Previous experience with MOSH is preferred.
You need to have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (with a focus on industrial safety, EHS, etc., preferred).
