Overview: GenOn is looking for a Maintenance Mechanic Welder for the Avon Lake Generating Station, located in Avon Lake, OH. Relocation assistance is not availabe for this position. This position requires a recommended score on the EEI POSS test. For more information, including a link to access the practice test online, please visit http://www.genon.com/careers/pre-testing.aspx Responsibilities: Under general directive supervision, works with and directs a crew of up to four (4) employees performing certified weld repair on boilers, auxiliary equipment and plant piping and perform all the duties of a Maintenance Mechanic. - Assist as assigned in Maintenance with any functions in the plant including but not limited to: dismantling, overhauling and assembling turbines and auxiliary equipment; operating overhead cranes on regular and precision lifts.
- Repair or replace and align and perform static or dynamic balancing of rotating equipment.
- Perform code and non-code welding, brazing, soldering and oxyacetylene burning, layout and fabrication of parts from various materials; and maintaining plant piping.
- Perform or assist in removing, repairing, and installing boiler tubes. Repairing boiler accessories including but not limited to clinker grinders, generating cooling system equipment, heat exchangers, burners, valves, etc. Perform boiler inspections during hydrostatic testing.
- Machining and making special parts or assemblies within close adjustments and dimension limits; operating machines customarily used in machine shops.
- Directing and inspecting maintenance work of employees of lower or the same job classification.
- Inspecting, testing, adjusting, replacing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting plant mechanical equipment, coordinating with supervisors and production crew for clearance and removal of equipment from service.
- Perform insulation and refractory work.
- Performing any task assigned for continuity or restoration of service in an emergency.
- Training employees as assigned.
- Performing the duties of a Maintenance Mechanic, Power Plant Worker and other similar less skilled work.
- Responsible for adhering to operating rules and practices as well as safety and regulatory policies.
Qualifications: - Must meet the Company’s requirements as to general qualifications.
- Must meet all of the qualifications of the Maintenance Mechanic and have welder certification for entry into this position.
- Must possess four (4) years of power plant experience, with at least one (1) year as a Maintenance Mechanic or the equivalent.
- Must have a thorough working knowledge of the welder’s responsibilities as it applies to their job duties.
- Must be certified in the following processes: SMAW, GTAW, and MIG and maintain such certifications.
- Must be proficient and demonstrate ability to perform; piping repair, mechanical repair, machine shop work and basic electrical skills.
- Must possess working knowledge of required corporate data systems such as Maintenance Management System.
