Overview: This position is accountable for the safe, efficient and profitable operation of the Niles generating station. The general manager works to insure that Niles is a great place to work while achieving senior management's expectations for operating, financial and regulatory compliance performance. This position is accountable for direct line management of station operations, maintenance, administration, and technical areas. This requires accurate determination and communication of operational and maintenance priorities, demonstrated human resource skills to effectively lead personnel towards continuous improvement, and demonstrated planning skills to develop and execute the stations facility business plan. - Provides leadership, direction and supervision to the staff and represented employees at the station collaborating as needed with human resources and bargaining unit representation.

- Promotes and supports the development of technical, leadership, and value driven business skills of employees to carry out responsibilities in a competitive environment.

- Creates and supports an organizational culture that encourages and rewards employee involvement, innovative thinking, adaptation to change, responsible risk taking, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
- Formulates appropriate strategies, which support the overall strategy of the business unit and GenOn Energy and manages development and implementation of assigned area goals, objectives, and initiatives; assists and advises executive management on business strategy for the station.
- Manages all business aspects of assigned area to maximize competitive position of the business unit, including maintaining proper staffing levels and proactive cost and value driven outcomes.
- Collaborates on company teams for the purpose of forwarding GenOn Energy objectives
- Reviews organizational performance with management employees and addresses opportunities for improvement on a regular basis.
- Manages, as necessary, the evaluation and selection of service providers external to the business unit.
- Manages work performed by external service providers in support of objectives and responsibilities.
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with organizations external to the business unit.
- Ensures that appropriate technical expertise related to assigned area of responsibility is available and provided to customers in a timely manner, as required.
- Manages development of appropriate standards guidelines, programs, and procedures within assigned area of responsibility.
- Responsible for O&M/Projects/Overhaul Budget development and implementation.
Qualifications: EDUCATION: Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, knowledge of power plant systems, equipment, material, operations and finances as they pertain to assigned area of responsibility or 10 years of equivalent experience in a related technical field. EXPERIENCE: Experience, at increasing levels of responsibility, leading/supervising employees in a power generation, operations or maintenance environment. SPECIAL SKILLS: - Comprehensive understanding of the processes, systems, assets, resources, key personnel, and business functions of the business unit
- Knowledge of power plant systems, equipment, materials, and operation as they relate to assigned area of responsibility
- Demonstrated effective leadership and personnel management skills
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) at all levels of the organization. In addition individual needs to effectively communicate corporate goals, programs, initiatives and policies to those reporting to him/her
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all individuals
- Possess ability to understand financial statements and the measures which drive business unit profitability and growth
- Ability to use a personal computer and SAP enterprise software
- Ability to foster a team orientated workforce with defined goals and objectives
- Ability to read, understands, and interprets technical documents related to area of responsibility
- Knowledge of Safety, Health, and Environmental regulations
- Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations
WORKING CONDITIONS: - Normal office environment and power plant environment
- Requires operation of a motor vehicle and a valid driver license in state of residency
- Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required
- Requires occasional travel outside service area
- Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.)
- May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals
- Requires operation of a personal computer and knowledge of Microsoft Word office suite
