Xcel Energy Prairie Island Nuclear Plant has an opportunity available for an Operations Manager. This manager is responsible for safe operation of the power plant. Articulates the vision and advocates for an operational focus for the organization. Sets priorities for emergent work and is accountable through the Shift Manager and the Work Control Center for schedule adherence and stability. Is the Program owner for all accredited operations training program. Ensures that training programs meet industry standards and that training activities are designed to improve individual and plant performance. Responsibilities - Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety. This requires observing and enforcing safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe behaviors, which may lead to accidents
- Establish and enforce reactivity management practices that ensure safe operation of the reactor.
- Establish plant priorities for degraded or inoperable equipment to minimize the
aggregate impact on the operators' ability to control the plant and respond to transients. - Ensure that the plant is operated within the bounds of the operating license and compliance with plant technical specifications and other regulatory requirements is strictly maintained.
- Demonstrate clear ownership of accredited training programs through intrusive
oversight and dedication of resources to ensure success. - Provide departmental input for plant outages. Assures adequacy of resources and
logistics for safe and efficient outage implementation. - Perform ERO duties based on site-specific assignment.
- Supports the ongoing operations of the fleet and is jointly accountable with fleet personnel for the fleet meeting its excellence plan.
Required - Current or previously held SRO license.
- 8 years related experience to include a minimum of 5 years at a nuclear plant site.
- Knowledge of plant operating practices and procedures.
- Previous supervisory experience preferably as a Control Room Supervisor or Shift Manager.
- Demonstrated effective leadership experience.
Preferred - Bachelor Degree preferred in science or engineering.
- Current or previously held SRO license, preferred on site-specific reactor design.
Must live within 60 minutes to ensure proper implementation of Emergency Response plan. A condition of employment will be successfully obtaining and maintaining General Security Clearance and a Nuclear Security Clearance for unescorted access to Xcel Energy nuclear plants including successful completion of nuclear General Access Training (GAT) and the nuclear security screening process (typically consists of an alcohol/drug screen, a criminal history check, a psychological assessment, initial credit and background investigation and periodic credit & criminal history checks).
