Job Description
Xcel Energy is looking for an IT compliance professional who is interested in a career in cyber security. Utilities have been named by the Department of Homeland Security as one of the primary targets for cyber threats. As a critical infrastructure provider, our job is to protect our systems from deliberate threats to our power grid. Similarly, we protect our corporate and customer's information against data loss. Due to the rise in cyber security threats and increased regulations, we're looking for good people who have a wide base of experience and are interested in helping to protect the delivery of reliable energy to our customer's hospitals, plants, offices and homes.
Xcel Energy has an opening for an IT compliance professional who is interested in cyber security. This person will have experience in IT audits as well as building and managing controls in an ISO 27000 or COBIT environment. The person filling this role will need excellent coordination and written communication skills to support regulatory audits and self-certifications. Additionally, industry certificates such as CISSP, CISA and CISM are desireable.
Our teams are highly matrixed across multiple business units. We're looking for someone who can earn the respect and and lead our cyber security efforts across the business. Knowledge and experience with NIST SP800, ISO 27000 are important to success.
Summary
Responsible for providing cyber security guidance, identifying, evaluating, designing, developing, implementing and integrating cyber security products and services that will provide information protection. Technical cyber security products and services expert for Xcel Energy. Performing Cyber Security Audits as required by FERC/NERC. Meets regulatory requirements such as Department of Homeland Security with processes/procedures development and implementation. Performing Penetration Tests of Xcel Energy's computing environments. Accountable for Cyber Forensic Investigations. Works closely with I/T teams, IBM and other service providers to assure new business functionalities are secure and hardened.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide cyber security support to business and technical teams of experts in the design of standardized products and customized solutions. Ability to perform Cyber Security Audits and Penetration Tests as well as mitigating Cyber Security Vulnerabilities. Coordinate Cyber Investigations and maintain forensic evidence as needed. Must be flexible to continuously changing demands and technologies and have the ability to maintain a library of secuirty tools used as part of this function.
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with IBM and other service providers responsible for providing technology consulting. Work with business unit executives and service providers to introduce which new Cyber Security functionalities into the environment.
  • Improve and maintain technical specifications on Xcel Energy products and services by researching new technologies and applications and identifying untapped customer applications. Partner with various I/T areas on improving and expanding products based on reactions to existing products and services and changing technology.
  • Develops and implements Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies for the enterprise including the SCADA and Generation areas.
  • Provide guidance and training to internal staff including project managers, other Xcel Energy technical areas as well as customers and trade allies on cyber security issues.
  • Develops and supports business unit and team scorecard activities, tracking results and indicators utilizing technical applications.

Minimum Requirements

  • A college degree in computer science or technology
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in cyber security or a minimum of 8 years work experience in information technology and integration or related functions.
  • Must possess problem-solving skills and have a broad knowledge relating to I/T infrastructures.
  • Must have in-depth and up-to-date experience with multiple operating systems and desk side integration.
  • Must have proven communication and technical skills and a strong customer focus.
  • Travel is required 25% of the time within Xcel Energy Territory.
