Summary Responsible for the creation and implemention of HU and Safety policies and practices that will achieve industry best in the areas of Human Performance (HU) and Safety. Set the vision and strategic planning to integrate human performance and safety initiatives into the business operating strategies. Partner with corporate leadership to develop related policies that ensure a strategic and collaborative approach to achieving alignment. Essential Responsibilities
- Creates strategic vision for safety and human performance initiatives to achieve industry leading performance in accordance with the picture of excellence. Priorities and goals are developed and executed effectively by station management. Oversight and supervision of Human Performance Coordinator, Safety Coordinator, and contract Safety Coordinators. Program owner of Human Performance and Safety, managing the Human Performance of all site personnel, ensuring HU/Safety excellence, driving results to corrective action and assessments of effectiveness measurements.
- Facilitate the Human Performance Improvement Plan for the station. Assist in implementing human error reduction techniques by training managers, supervisors and workers. Participate in the Site Human Performance Steering Team and ensure the Human Performance Improvement Team is engaged and shows ownership of station HU. Coordinate and when necessary, prepare information for periodic Human Performance Enhancement Days.
- Partners with fleet and sister station to develop and implement human performance and safety processes that optimize the effectiveness of safe work procedures for all plant projects and personnel.
- Provides guidance, technical expertise and counsel to business area leadership when dealing with regulatory entities such as Federal and State OSHA and the NRC.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with corporate and other business area leadership. Leverages HU and safety efforts to ensure strategic and collaborative approaches to safety programs and alignment with Xcel Energy vision, values and goals. Maintains effective relationships with customers, vendors, contractors and consultants.
- Delegates and empowers staff in the successful performance of their tasks and responsibilities. Provides leadership, coaching, mentoring and performance feedback to team. Perform staff management functions including hiring, performance, salary administration, positive discipline, learning and development opportunities, etc. Create an environment of continuous improvement and learning to foster employee development.
Required Bachelor's degree in safety or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required. Minimum of 10 years experience in nuclear plant operations, combined with five years of demonstrated leadership experience with 2-3 years Supervisory experience. Demonstrated ability to lead others, promote a team environment, coach and mentor. Knowledge of applicable state and federal utility safety and compliance regulations is required. Ability to develop effective processes is required. Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and rapidly changing business environment, integrating with multiple groups and customers, managing and facilitating teams. Demonstrated strong business acumen combined with exceptional interpersonal skills, customer focus, communication, time management and analytical abilities is also required. Experience with utility safety program management and/or compliance training preferred.
