Overview: Coordinate and provide technical and project management support for all aspects of operations, maintenance and improvements to fossil-fired generating plants. Develop and implement strategies, processes and best practices to improve overall performance and reduce forced outages and downtime. Provide technical support for projects from conceptual development to completion of plant modifications and additions. Responsibilities: Provide engineering and project management services to support generating facilities either independently, as a member of a project team, or through the services and expertise from contracted firms, including: - Working closely with plant personnel and other team members in all phases of a project, assuring all are informed and as part of the effort to accurately conceive, design and construct appropriate and functional plant systems.
- Coordinating engineering activities and functions between plant personnel and both in-house engineering personnel and contracted firms.
- Providing or directing the development of reliable and cost effective engineering recommendations in response to plant maintenance, operational, safety and environmental needs.
- Providing technical and administrative support to various contracted outside firms.
- Reviewing work products from in-house engineering and outside consultants to assure conformance with Company policies and objectives, accepted standards and appropriate engineering guidelines and procedures.
- Coordinating or preparing project scope documents, budgets and schedules
- Obtaining authorization of funding for assigned projects, reporting and managing expenditures within budget.
- Assuring complete development of equipment specifications, bills of material, construction specifications, installation drawings, recommended spare parts lists and as-built drawings.
- Qualifying bidders, preparing requests for proposal, and developing bid evaluations and contract award recommendations.
- Directing contractors and monitoring maintenance and construction activities for compliance with contracts, applicable codes and standards
- Tracking and monitoring project progress, costs and schedules
- Providing project status updates and reports
Qualifications: Education/Experience: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university is required, with 4 years of postgraduate working knowledge and experience in power generation. Applicant must have demonstrated technical knowledge of design, operation, performance and maintenance of power plant equipment and applicable power plant codes. Experience in a similar industrial environment may be considered applicable. Project management experience is strongly desired. Understanding of digital control system functions and applications is a plus. Knowledge/Skills & Abilities: - Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
- Must have good verbal and writing skills
- Must have personal computer application skills – Excel, MS Word, MS Project, SAP experience is a plus
- Ability to perform economic analyses
- Ability to understand and interpret drawings and specifications in area of responsibility
- Knowledge of and ability to apply applicable industry standards and codes
- Ability to perform inspections of power plant systems and equipment to make observations and measurements
- Ability to perform standard engineering calculations in area of responsibility
- Ability to read, create and follow written policies and procedures
- Ability to read, write and understand English
- Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations
Working Conditions: - Job requires some travel to, and project assignments with, primarily, Generating Stations/ plants.
- Normal office/plant and/or construction site environment, including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high/low humidity at generating unit work locations
- Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect or collect data on plant equipment.
- Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required
- Job requires operation of a motor vehicle and valid drivers license
- Requires compliance with corporate safety program, including wearing personnel protection equipment such as safety glasses, appropriate footwear, fall protection and clothing, hardhat, earplugs, etc. at plants and construction sites.
- May be required to work around energized and rotating equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals.
