Building Systems Mechanical Engineer Summary * Technical expert supporting building operations in region. * Identifies/develops opportunities to improve processes and facilities. * Recommends, develops, implements, and verifies operating parameters, sequences, and procedures to ensure buildings are operated in the most effective and efficient manner. * Systems include all utilities (air, fuel, water, electricity, steam, oil, sewage, etc.) and associated equipment which use these utilities (HVAC, ventilation, refrigeration, elevators, fire protection, etc.) * Provides technical expertise supporting predictive, corrective, and preventive maintenance ac activities. Recommends/develops alternative solutions to maintenance problems to ensure the most effective and efficient techniques are used. * Coordinates with regional architects, operations and maintenance managers and other lead engineers for consistency. * Works to schedule and prepare preventive maintenance packages for outages at critical facilities such as TVA Data Centers. * Acts as main technical point of contact for building system modifications. * Provides/coordinates for engineering review of systems-related changes. * Monitors construction activities to protect TVA. * Serves as coordinator, unit leader, technical specialist with major responsibilities for implementing variety of programs including maintenance scheduling/tracking, energy reduction, and energy awareness. * Provides day-to-day administrative and technical supervision of lower grade engineer/craft persons. * Determines financial feasibility/defines quality standards for maintaining equipment with in-house personnel/contractors. * Responsible for developing proposals, providing cost estimates, and writing associated justification for capital projects. * Acts as project manager for selected technical projects. * Implements program focusing on energy conservation, environmental, and safety. Supervision Received * Supervision and guidance are provided by the department manager and are generally limited to overall objectives, general guidelines, and work priorities. * Incumbent plans and executes the work with minimal supervision. Skills and Proficiencies * Electrical engineering * Mechanical engineering * Environmental compliance * Diagram interpretation * Communication skills * Supervision skills * Project management * HVAC hardware controls and planning MINIMUM ELIGIBILTY FACTORS * Bachelor's degree in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering. * Several years experience in multi-disciplined buildings/building systems related to the commercial building field. * Working knowledge of Microstation 95. * Desirable - Certification in building systems such as building Owners/Managers Institute Systems Maintenance Administrator Certification and have been designated a Certified Energy Manager by Association of Energy Engineers; Certification as a licensed professional engineer.
