Job Description

Xcel Energy is looking for a Senior Construction Superintendent in Amarillo, Texas.

Summary
The position is responsible for the oversight and implementation of fleet-wide construction standards and processes for power plant capital projects within Energy Supply. The position will primarily be responsible for the on-site construction associated with multiple small modification projects and individual mid-range modification projects. Project costs will range from $2 million to over $500 million. The position will provide on-site construction oversight or direct supervision, as required.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Ensure potential contractors and suppliers are qualified to perform construction work in accordance with accepted Energy Supply standards and processes.
  • Negotiate capital equipment purchases and construction contracts.
  • Accountabilities include timely and satisfactory completion of construction projects and assuring project performance objectives are achieved for safety, quality, schedule and cost. Initiates and coordinates (with site and contractor safety personnel) project safety audits, as appropriate.
  • Directs or oversees field construction activities including; job site safety, traffic patterns, lay down areas, security, labor resource utilization, construction activities in the project schedule, material receipt process, site fabrication areas, QA and QC measures, change control, cost forecasting, job site communication process, construction logs and construction reporting.
  • Perform in-depth project constructability assessments and reviews as required.
  • Establish effective internal and external relationships with contractors, craft labor union representatives, suppliers, and the building trade council representatives.
  • Develop and maintain a state-of-the-art knowledge of construction techniques and technologies. Review and evaluate Energy Supply construction performance against industry standards, as required.
Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management
  • 12 years of power plant construction, design, engineering, operations or maintenance; to include 8 years power plant construction experience and 5 years construction management experience
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and proven performance on major projects
  • Extended job assignments and travel between regions may be required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction loss prevention and safety policies


Preferred
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license by examination
