Overview: DUTIES
Under general directive supervision, assists employees of higher classification; works with other employees engaged in the operation of, and performs a degree of maintenance on boilers, generators, and their auxiliary and associated equipment; operates and maintains National Pollution Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES) equipment. Responsibilities: Assisting employees of higher classification in operational functions assigned to the Production Crew, carrying out instructions of the Shift Supervisor PCSC, PCB and assisting in the duties of other Production Crew Trainee’s or other lower classification personnel.Performing duties to assure efficient, dependable operating conditions of boilers, turbines, generators or other equipment.Starting and stopping auxiliary equipment associated with boilers, main turbines and generators as required by system conditions.Checking with other personnel being relieved for special orders and operating conditions; checking the operation and condition of equipment upon going on duty.Recording meter and instrument indications; logging all equipment trouble and equipment operating problems; recording times for starting and stopping various equipment, etc.Maintaining air and water discharges within regulatory compliance.Participating in removing and tagging of equipment from service for inspection and maintenance work; removing tags from equipment and clearing upon completion of work; ensuring that equipment and/or operating conditions are returned to normal.In accordance with established procedures or company practices: assists in various switching operations, under normal conditions, which are necessary to complete the assigned construction and/or maintenance activity, performs switching of limited complexity up to and including 480 volt AC and 125 volt DC equipment; performs switching in emergency conditions reporting to the switching authority any unusual or abnormal conditions.Assisting in the preparation and performance of special tests, and performing or assisting in the performance of special and routine tests.Does semi-skilled mechanical and electrical repair work on plant equipment such as: turbines, condensers, boilers, auxiliary equipment, welding, sheet metal work, and pipefitting.Performs, directs, or assists in the performance of any task assigned for continuity or restoration of service in an emergency.Initiating work requests for maintenance and repair of equipment and forwarding to appropriate supervision for review and appropriate action.Training and assisting in the training of plant employees.Maintaining work areas and equipment in a neat, clean and presentable condition.Perform duties of a Power Plant Worker and other similar or less skilled work. Qualifications: - Must meet the Company’s requirements as to general qualifications.
- Must meet all the qualifications of Power Plant Worker.
- Must possess five (5) years of power plant experience or the equivalent.
- Must be able to pass specified qualification tests.
- Must be able to acquire basic knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, cycle chemistry and operational systems of the plant and demonstrate the ability to perform mechanical, electrical, and cycle chemistry.
- All requirements for promotion to PCB must be met within 18 months. This includes completion of applicable training modules, acquisition of basic knowledge of NPDES, Unit 7 and Unit 9 bottom ash, fly ash and pyrite removal systems, and attainment of a State of Ohio 3rd Class Stationary Engineers License.
- Must be willing to continue to prepare for advancement to PCSC.
- Must be able to acquire an understand power plant terminology.
