SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: Must receive a satisfactory score on the written and hands on interview. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Works under the supervision of the Generation Superintendent and is directed by the Maintenance Working Foreman.
Maintains and makes repairs to electric generating equipment including: steam turbines, hydro electric turbines, combustion turbines, pumps, forced draft fans, cooling towers, air compressors, and other auxiliary steam equipment.
Inspects equipment at regular intervals and maintains records of preventative maintenance, repairs, predictive monitoring, and parts replacement.
Operates machine lathes, milling machines, welding machines, power saws, drill press, and other shop tools in maintaining, repairing and making parts for plant equipment.
Assists other Journeyman and Production Specialist in disassembly, overhaul, and assembly of steam turbine generators, hydroelectric turbine generators, combustion turbine generators, and all auxiliary equipment. Duties include erection of scaffolding, parts and material selection, fitting, and assembling parts into mechanical equipment.
Maintains and makes repairs to ditch gates and traveling screens, penstocks, and discharge structures associated with hydroelectric generators.
Maintains and makes repairs to steam and water piping including removal and installation of valves, piping, and fittings. Removes, repairs, and/or replaces insulation on piping and other auxiliary steam and water handling equipment.
Performs layout, fabrication, repair and replacement of pressure retaining and structural steel components such as boiler tubing and piping.
Inspects and performs required maintenance to overhead cranes and hoists.
Instructs Production Specialists and temporary personnel in the proper and safe methods to perform their duties and in the use of tools and equipment. Participates in safety training, maintains a clean and safe working environment, and conforms to all safety policies established by the Farmington Electric Utility System.
Troubleshoots equipment problems, follows written maintenance procedures, and corresponds verbally with equipment vendors and technical representatives.
Using excellent customer services skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

QUALIFICATIONS This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program. This includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
A pre-employment physical and or drug/alcohol test is required for this position.
Extensive background checks required.
Baseline and annual audiogram required.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must be a Journeyman Mechanic who has served a certified apprenticeship or other equivalent training. Three years power plant or other process plant experience in the craft is required.
Must have specialized training in the operation of machine shop equipment.
Must be thoroughly familiar with all aspects of process mechanical maintenance, preferably steam, hydro electric, and combustion turbines.
Must have experience in the operation of machine shop equipment, with extensive experience in the operation of lathes and milling machines and be capable of fabricating and modifying parts to exact specifications.
Must be capable of using large hand and power tools used in the repair of equipment.
Must have knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and predictive maintenance practices such as vibration analysis.
Must be capable of performing mathematical calculations required for machining parts, shaft alignment, and other routine maintenance activities.
Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Must be able to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
Requires the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers and supervisors.
Must have a telephone at residence and be willing to be on 24 hour call; must be able to be at the Power Plant within thirty minutes after receiving a call.
Valid New Mexico Driver's License required with acceptable driving record for past three years.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be capable of clear two way communication, both hearing and speaking.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and confined spaces and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
