Job Description

Xcel Energy is now recruiting engineering students for Summer 2012 Nuclear Internships! Engineering and analyst opportunities will be available in the Twin Cities area at the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant, Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant, and at our fleet office in downtown Minneapolis, MN. Ideal candidates will have a 3.0 GPA, have completed at least their sophomore year (in the engineering or technical major), and have demonstrated leadership skills and applicable extra curricular activities.

Work with the Engineering staff to complete tasks spanning all aspects of a commercial operating nuclear generating plant. Tasks may include:
• Revising Calculations
• Developing and/or Enhancing Programs (lay out)
• Research
• Hydraulic and Fluid Flow Calculations
• Implementing New Programs
• Design
• Database development/maintenance

Through practical field experience and mentoring, successful candidates will gain significant professional confidence and people skills.

Minimum Requirements:
• Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program, or be enrolled in a technical mathematics or science program
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to communicate effectively; both written and verbally
• Must be self- motivated and have the ability to work well with others
• Must be interested in a hands-on work approach
• If selected for an interview, must be able to attend a face to face interview in December 2011 or January 2012
• If selected for an offer, must be able to successfully complete nuclear in processing (at work location) 30 days prior to start date

A condition of employment will be successfully obtaining and maintaining General Security Clearance and a Nuclear Security Clearance for unescorted access to Xcel Energy nuclear plants including successful completion of nuclear General Access Training (GAT) and the nuclear security screening process (typically consists of an alcohol/drug screen, a criminal history check, a psychological assessment, initial credit and background investigation and periodic credit & criminal history checks).
