Job description : The role of the Project EHS Manager is to be a hands-on oversight for the company's environmental health and safety programs at the construction/field and manufacturing levels in India. This role actively provides EHS services to the project/site, project director/managers and personnel, and evaluates and oversees all contractors' safety plans and programs with the primary goal of zero incidents, accidents and injuries. The mandatory requirement of this role is to ensure that at all times, all project personnel, subcontractors and AREVA employees follow safety procedures and comply with AREVA Solar Corporate EHS policies, standards and programs, applicable EHS management systems (ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001) and INdian laws and regulations. Under the directions of AREVA Solar Senior EHS Director and the Reliance Project Director/Site Manager, coordinate and implement the functions of the EHS department. Position reports on a day to day basis to the Project Director and functionally to the AREVA Solar Senior EHS Director and is accountable to both. Performance reviews, compensation and career development will be managed by AREVA Solar Senior Director of EHS with input by the Project Director. The Senior EHS Director will drive the hiring process through HR with the involovement and concurrence of the Project Director. Specific Duties: - Oversee the implementation of the Areva Solar EHS programs in all operational locations
- Ensure compliance with Areva Solar EHS policies, programs, systems and procedures
- Actively contribute to the enhancement of the project EHS systems, plans and procedures and implement. These include the Site Specific Safety Plan.
- Perform Health and Safety site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with Corporate policies and standards, and local laws and regulations
- Review all subcontractor EHS plans to ensure that they are in compliance with Areva Solar EHS policies, management systems and standards, and local regulations
- Conduct contractor safety surveillance and enforce corrections
- Ensure accident and incident investigations systems are in place and follow through
- Monitor the EHS KPI's (both lagging and leading), and timely report as required
- Conduct hazard and risk assessments and implement solutions
- Oversee and Implement the Site Specific Safety Plans and systems for sites under the umbrella of the OHSAS 18001:2007 Management System and the Areva Solar EHS System
- Liaise subcontractor representatives to ensure that an integrated approach to EHS is adopted on the project that is fully compliant with local Law and Regulations and meets Areva Solar standards
- Produce and implement EHS inspection schedules for all subcontractors on Areva Solar projects
- Produce and implement audit schedules for Projects and advise key stakeholders
- Conduct EHS training for Areva employees and ensure adequacy of contractors' training
- Meet various permit (Environmental) obligations under applicable regulations with timely collection of data, regulatory submissions; and ensure permit continuity and compliance.
- Conduct any required environmental assessment under applicable regulations
- Conduct safety inductions and ensure contractor safety inductions are compliant with Areva Solar
- Conduct accident and near miss investigations and follow PDCA requirements
- Maintain specific Aspects/Impacts Register and update when impacted by operation changes
- Set, measure and report against all project goals, objectives, schedules, plans, and EHS requirements
- Inspect project site, physical plant or operations as required to identify any additional areas of hazard identification and risk assessment and control; maintain list with priorities and review with Project Director or Site Manager and EHS Senior Director
- Conduct Project, Plant and/or Operations Safety Meetings and conduct New Hire Safety Orientation Training for Employees as requested or required
- Develop and implement all the required documentation, operational checks and reports for the EHS Management System to be compliant with applicable OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards, including corrective and preventative measures
- Recommend changes to the site and to Areva Solar Corporate EHS management system to meet site needs and the requirements of OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001
- Implement corrective actions in a timely manner with documentation that is compliant with Areva Solar EHS system requirements
- Maintain all EHS training database
- Motivate workers and others to follow safety requirements
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Senior Director EHS and Project Director
Specific Assignments - Implement Areva Solar India operations in line with Areva Solar's EHS Management System/Program
- Develop a professional Health, Safety and Environmental work book or procedures, and assist and drive AREVA Solar's Health and Safety policy at each site /location
- Conduct Risk Assessments for Areva Solar's operations including manufacturing, construction and installation of Solar systems
- Support the development and implement of all the required documentation, operational checks and reports for the EHS Management Systems ( OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards)
- Develop risk mitigation and control systems to risk outputs of the RA system

Required Qualifications: - BE/ME/MS in engineering, safety engineering or Industrial safety
- EHS experience in very broad conditions and situations (E.g. crane/rigging/lifting, excavations, electrical/mechanical systems, confined space, chemical systems and exposures, lab safety, etc.
- Ability to quickly grasp evolving EHS issues, regulations, standards and risks
- Proven track record of effectively managing project safety on major construction projects; energy/renewables projects and manufacturing a plus.
- Track safety indicators and metrics
- Manage internal databases and shared websites to track project EHS documents, records, audit corrective action plans, program metrics, plans and procedures
- Act as liaison with subcontractors to evaluate, correct and provide assistance concerning project safety issues, audits and remedial actions
- Exposure to OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems a plus
- Contractor safety surveillance and correction programs
- Knowledge of relevant safety sections of India National Building Code 2005
- At least 8 years of direct EHS experience in major construction sites (excludes residential and commercial). Any additional Industrial exposure is a plus
- Excellent experience and skill with MS Office software such as Excel and MS Word.
- Knowledge of Safety and Health in the construction sector in accordance with Indian NSC requirements
- Motivation and Training skills to ensure safe practices are followed

Preferred Qualifications: BE/ME/MS in engineering, safety or industrial safety. At least 8 years of direct EHS hands-on experience in large industrial construction (excludes residential and commercial). A firm understanding and ability to interpret Areva Solar's EHS policies and standards and local EHS laws and regulations. Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationship in a team environment in a highly globalized organization. Thorough knowledge of hazards associated with various conditions (site/field, construction; manufacturing a plus) and the ability to pro-actively mitigate/manage hazards. Experience and proficiency in writing and preparing site safety plans, activity hazard analysis, hazard mitigation/control procedures and other written documents. Experience in the selection, usage, training and maintenance of IH and Safety equipment and instrumentation. Experience in training program development, implementation and delivery (site safety, PPE, Respiratory Protection, Lockout tag out, Electrical safety, Fall Protection, etc.). Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic, and demanding environment. OHSAS 18001 experience a plus. Day to day supervision and responsibility for safety at remote location. Hindi language communication skills. This is a very hands-on position with no direct reports.
