Xcel Energy has an opportunity for a Radiation Protection Supervisor to join the RP team at Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant. This is a great opportunity for a Radiation Protection Technician to move into a leadership position. Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant is an INPO 1, single unit boiling water reactor, located about three miles northwest of Monticello, MN, and 40 miles northwest of the Twin Cities on the banks of the Mississippi River.
Summary: This position is responsible for the leadership and direction of the Radiation Protection support organization. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the areas of radioactive waste management and long-range dose reduction initiatives management. This person is also responsible for reinforcing safe work practices and interfacing with union personnel and other duties as assigned. May fill in for RP/Chemistry Manager. Essential Responsibilities: • Supervise ALARA program and long-range dose reduction initiatives. • Supervise radioactive waste management. • Performing, assigning and approving Action Requests that related to the areas described above. • Review and approve all budget and authorization forms prepared by individuals under his/her direction and monitor projects under their supervision with respect to authorized expenditure levels. • Develop and coach employees via PMP process and the work observation program. • RP representative for site/fleet initiatives and Reinforce safe working practices per the NMC Fleet-Wide and department safety policies. Required: High school degree or general education degree required. Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or four-year technical degree in health physics preferred. 10 years in the nuclear industry in radiation protection with experience in ALARA, long term dose reduction initiatives, and radioactive waste shipping preferred. SRO License or certification preferred. Selection criteria may include testing and/or assessment.
