Job Description
Overview:

Under the direction of a head operator or supervisor operate and monitor auxiliary equipment and systems which support the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound production of electricity.

This position requires the EEI POSS/MASS test.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the safe, efficient, reliable and environmentally sound operation of plant equipment
  • Understand and execute the equipment clearance procedure
  • Properly operate control room, steam generator, gas and steam turbines, Facility auxiliary equipment and systems during routine, abnormal and emergency operations
  • Communicate information clearly, both orally and written
  • Assist maintenance personnel in performance of maintenance activities to include use of tools, equipment and Company vehicles
  • Assist in on-the-job training of other Operators
  • Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems
  • Generate and review Work Requests for execution of equipment repair
  • Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend and input data
  • Monitor and record data available through the use of various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures
  • Implement Plant Emergency Procedures as needed
  • Operate all Facility systems to control process of electrical generation
  • Observe variations in operating conditions, interpret meter and gauge readings and act in a proper and safe manner in response to such conditions
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications:
  • Ability to use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to perform flow, pressure and meter calculations
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, procedures and technical manuals
  • Use hand and power tools and equipment
  • Communicate conditions of plant system and equipment to others
  • Apply knowledge of steam power plant operations and basic power plant principles to daily decision-making and work tasks
  • Operate computers and printers
  • Discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel
  • Work without supervision inspection while carrying out duties
  • Take, record and analyze readings of various electrical and mechanical meters
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate various switches and valves and the effect each has on the total operation
  • Meet physical requirements of the job such as perform tasks while standing, walking, climbing and squatting. Work with extended reach above head and in front of body and lift 50 pounds and carry while walking distances of up to 10 feet
  • Ability to operate Company vehicles and mobile equipment

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Successfully pass the EEI Power Plant Operator exam

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as Power Plant Operator of an Electric Generating plant

Physical Requirements:

  • Power Plant Environment-Work both inside and outside in all temperatures and climate conditions. Around large rotating equipment, energized electrical equipment and in high noise areas, on elevations in excess of 250 feet, and/or from platforms at heights of 5 feet or greater, in confined places. Climb stairways, ladders, and work from aerial devices. Footwear meeting ANSI-Z41 (I75-C75) standards must be worn.
  • Requires working rotating shifts, overtime and responding to emergency call-outs 7 days a week/24 hours a day.
  • Daily work expectation requires ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, crouch, squat, twist, and climb, using hand tools weighing up to 30 pounds in position above and below head, and extended from body.
  • Have ability to discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel.
  • Ability to operate/remove high voltage electrical breakers.
  • Lift 50 pounds and carry a walking distance of up to 10 feet.
  • Use air wrenches, stoop and bend to reach valves, pull on chain-falls and come-a-longs.
  • Work with and around hazardous and non-hazardous materials (reference the waste management guidance manual).
  • Wear half and full face respirators and other protective devices (PPE).
  • Employee must arrange own transportation to assigned work locations; and may be reassigned to other work locations at the Company's discretion.
