Job Description
Xcel Energy's Energy Efficiency and Product Development area has an opening for a Field Service Engineer to join their team in Denver, CO. You will have the opportunity to work out in the field with Xcel Energy's customers and provide your expertise on ways to conserve energy. If you do have experience working with energy related products, but are not an expert in 1 specific area, and enjoy working with customers, this could be the perfect opportunity!
As a Field Service Engineer, you will provide conservation technical/engineering support to large commercial and industrial customers with significant focus on targeted conservation programs (i.e., established Marketing programs of Industrial Process Efficiency and Custom Efficiency). Work with customers and account managers to identify, develop and optimize large, complex projects. Work with marketing and energy efficiency engineering team members to ensure documentation and technical assumptions adequately support the projects and optimize the opportunity for customers and Xcel Energy. This position will have specific responsibilities for conservation project pipeline management and goal achievement for specific targeted programs.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Working with the account manager, develop a project list and achieve goals for targeted programs (i.e., Industrial Process Efficiency and Custom Efficiency). Work well with the account managers and customers to develop opportunities, spending considerable amount of time on-site with customers' energy and environmental managers and their staffs to discuss, develop and enhance opportunities. Consult with customers and their engineers and electrical staffs/vendors to develop short and long term projects. Provide the technical expertise that is critical to the development of complex projects with extended decision and project length. Participate in selling the project within the customer's organization.
  • Project Management: Be the lead (responsibility) with customers, account managers, marketing and technical consulting team members to document and project-manage large, complex projects. Create spreadsheets and/or use project management software to insure that large, complex projects stay on track and are optimized. Draw on multiple internal and external resources. Escalate as necessary to insure that opportunities stay on track and the resources are effectively focused on delivering information and results in a timely manner.
  • Partner with Xcel Energy's Marketing and Technical Consultants to insure project technical documentation and assumptions are adequate as well as optimize the project. Be highly aware of evolving energy, electrical and environmental technologies and solutions. Invest in continuing education. Lead, be a part of, facilitate and participate in customer, vendor and community events in these areas.
  • Partner with the vendor/channel managers in Marketing to insure that through the relationships with vendors and engineering firms, complex projects are identified and brought forward.

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related Engineering degree
  • 6 years experience with significant direct customer contact

Preferred

  • Licensed PE (Professional Engineer) Certification
  • Experience in one or more of the following: industrial processes, consulting engineering, technical sales
