Reactor Engineering, a department within our PPL Susquehanna organization, is seeking one student to work full time (40 hours/week) during the summer of 2012, in Berwick, PA. Position Summary A Cooperative Associate is a temporarily employed full-time college student in an accredited four-year institution of higher learning, who is offered a work-study program designed to give college students practical work experience in their field of study. This program often helps students determine career interests. Beyond the scope of the actual tasks performed, the student becomes familiar with a corporate environment and gains practical skills and knowledge to supplement their classroom experience. Primary Responsibilities Position will entail: - Developing new computer programs and modifying existing programs used by Reactor Engineers for planning refueling outages and power maneuvers. - Analyzing plant test data. - Preparing plant procedures used by plant operators and reactor engineers. - Collecting plant data for evaluation by reactor engineers. - Assisting in the management of the onsite nuclear fuel. - Supporting plant power operation. Co-ops will assist in projects like: - Developing an interface program that converts output from the fuel shuffle software so that it can be read by other computer programs used by operators and reactor engineers. - Testing of control rods to ensure acceptable performance. - Participating in reactor operation alongside reactor engineers. - Modifying programs used by reactor engineers when developing a control rod sequence exchanges. - Evaluating plant data during startup physics testing. - Developing a computer program that provides a visual display of the core and fuel pools for use by plant operators while performing refueling operations. Candidate Qualifications Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration. Basic Qualifications - Enrolled in an accredited college or university program. - Enrolled in a curriculum leading to a baccalaureate or masters degree in Nuclear Engineering. - Enrolled on a full-time basis (12 semester hours). Students may not continue as a Co-operative Associate once they have graduated. - Have an acceptable overall grade point average, generally not lower than a 3.2. - Eligible to work in accordance with Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) regulations. - Able to provide an official student transcript and other required information. - 18 years of age or older.
