Nuclear Design Engineering, a department within our PPL Susquehanna organization, is seeking three students to work full time (40 hours/week) during the summer semester 2012, in Berwick, PA. Position Summary A Cooperative Associate is a temporarily employed full-time college student in an accredited four-year institution of higher learning, who is offered a work-study program designed to give college students practical work experience in their field of study. This program often helps students determine career interests. Beyond the scope of the actual tasks performed, the student becomes familiar with a corporate environment and gains practical skills and knowledge to supplement their classroom experience. Primary Responsibilities Position will entail: - Developing knowledge of power plant design and operation through internship experience and training provided. - Providing plant welding and ASME code interpretation and implementation. - Performing mechanical/metallurgical analyses to support welding and ASME Code Replacements and Repairs. - Supporting design, coordination, planning and documentation of plant welding including walk downs. - Evaluating plant-specific and industry operating experience events, and making recommendations to resolve system/structure/component performance issues under the corrective action program. - Recommending changes and making improvements to site design procedures and programs. - Performing evaluations of non identical replacement components and sub-components. Former Co-ops have assisted in projects like: - Preparing input data and analysis for resolution of Corrective Actions and deficiencies. - Supporting/facilitating design program and plant change self assessments. - Performing plant walk downs during the design of engineering changes. - Analyzing replacement components and sub-components. - Performing plant rigging evaluations. - Designing plant changes to address industrial safety deficiencies. Candidate Qualifications Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration. Basic Qualifications - Enrolled in an accredited college or university program. - Enrolled in a curriculum leading to a baccalaureate or masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field. - Enrolled on a full-time basis (12 semester hours). Students may not continue as a Co-operative Associate once they have graduated. - Have an acceptable overall grade point average, generally not lower than a 3.2. - Eligible to work in accordance with Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) regulations. - Able to provide an official student transcript and other required information. - 18 years of age or older.
