Information Solutions - Shared Solutions, a department within our PPL Services organization, is seeking four students to work full time (40 hours/week) during summer semester 2012, in Allentown, PA. Position Summary A Cooperative Associate is a temporarily employed full-time college student in an accredited four-year institution of higher learning, who is offered a work-study program designed to give college students practical work experience in their field of study. This program often helps students determine career interests. Beyond the scope of the actual tasks performed, the student becomes familiar with a corporate environment and gains practical skills and knowledge to supplement their classroom experience. Primary Responsibilities There are four Application Developer positions available within IT Shared Solutions. Below are brief descriptions related to the responsibilities and projects for each position. Application Developer – Development Support Position Entails: - Providing administrative support and troubleshooting the Team Foundation Server 2010 feature set. - Assisting with the implementation of the TFS build server for application builds and deployment. - Supporting tools used for application lifecycle management, including Team Foundation Server, Visual Studio, and Test Manager. - Application development using .NET TFS 2010 API. Co-op may assist with projects such as: - Enterprise adoption of TFS Build server for building and deploying .NET applications. - Enhancements to .NET applications that support TFS administrative functions. - Enterprise training of TFS end user community. Application Developer – Services Position Entails: - Assisting in the development and implementation of process improvements for Financial and HR systems to automate manual tasks and improve process efficiency. - Supporting project goals through the use of project management and application development techniques. - Understanding software development life cycles to support application development activities associated with various IT projects related to HR and Financial systems. - Reviewing and updating disaster recovery plans. Co-op may assist with projects such as: - Development and deployment of a Land Management project in a .NET environment. - Development of SQL based reports. - Development of technical documentation, such as design documents, operational readiness materials, and knowledgebase articles. Application Developer – SharePoint/Portal Position Entails: - Working with the Enterprise Portal and Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Implementation Project Teams. - Project responsibilities may include testing, user adoption assistance, developing training materials, site development, and third party product evaluations. Application Developer – .NET Position Entails: - Developing software using .NET and Oracle technologies to enhance or maintain in-house systems that support internal processes associated with the delivery of IT services. They include incident management, asset management, change management, security request, and knowledge management. - Developing interfaces from in-house systems to new vendor systems. - Potentially assisting with the configuration of new vendor systems. - Working with other IT groups to define business requirements. - Documenting and testing all work. Co-op may assist with projects such as: - Migrating internal IT services products to vendor systems. - Enhancing the in-house Security Request, Account Information Management, or Change Management Systems. - Implementing an Identity and Access Management System. Candidate Qualifications Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration. Basic Qualifications - Enrolled in an accredited college or university program. - Enrolled in a curriculum leading to a baccalaureate or masters degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field. - Enrolled on a full-time basis (12 semester hours). Students may not continue as a Co-operative Associate once they have graduated. - Have an acceptable overall grade point average, generally not lower than a 3.2. - Eligible to work in accordance with Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) regulations. - Able to provide an official student transcript and other required information. - 18 years of age or older. Preferred Qualifications There are four Application Developer positions available within IT Shared Solutions. Below are the preferred qualifications for each position. Application Developer – Development Support Preferred Qualifications: - Current Sophomore or Junior majoring in Computer Science or Management Information Systems. - Application development coursework (.NET preferred). - Application design coursework with focus on objected oriented programming. - Ability to effectively document technical standards, procedures and processes. Application Developer – Services Preferred Qualifications: - Current Sophomore or Junior majoring in Computer Science or Management Information Systems. - Application development coursework (.NET preferred). - Application design coursework with focus on objected oriented programming. - Ability to effectively document technical standards, procedures, and processes - Knowledge of UNIX and SQL databases. Application Developer – SharePoint/Portal Preferred Qualifications: - Current Sophomore or Junior majoring in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or other Business / Information Technologies field. - Good analytical & critical thinking skills. - Good communication and collaboration skills. - Possess an understanding and interest in social networking and collaborative technologies. - Possess an understanding of web development and/or Web 2.0 concepts. Application Developer – .NET Preferred Qualifications: - Current Sophomore or Junior majoring in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. - Application development coursework (.NET preferred). - Application design coursework with focus on objected oriented programming. - Oracle and PLSQL knowledge helpful. - Ability to effectively document technical requirements, design, procedures, and test plans.
