Job Description
Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant is currently looking for a Nuclear Energy Supply Chain Manager. This position is responsible for supervising Procurement Engineering personnel and Buyers as well as performing procurement engineering activities to support the Fleet. Supervision includes technical mentoring, technical review of work products, coaching associated with performance with a goal of assuring the availability and accuracy of spare parts and materials to safely operate the site. Prairie Island's two pressurized water reactors generate about 20 percent of the electricity used by Xcel Energy's customers in the Upper Midwest. The plant is located on a 520-acre site about 40 miles southeast of Minneapolis-St. Paul and about five miles north of Red Wing, Minn. Nearly 800 people are employed full-time at the plant. On June 27, 2011, the NRC renewed for 20 years the plant's original operating licenses, authorizing the Prairie Island units to continue generating electricity to 2033 and 2034.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and personnel leadership and coaching to the procurement engineering and buyer staff. This includes mentoring of new personnel and existing personnel to new technologies. Ensure work is completed in compliance with federal, corporate, legal, and ethical requirements.
  • Develop and encourage an atmosphere of motivated, engaged, and empowered employees by creating clear expectations, development, recognition, performance plans, coaching, counseling and disciplinary action. Effectively delegate and prioritize work to promote effective and efficient use of resources. Empower staff in the successful performance of their tasks and responsibilities while encouraging innovation.
  • Identify and drive process improvement efforts throughout Supply Chain by effective utilization of the Procurement Engineering Fleet User Group and influence key stakeholders to implement the changes that lead to best practices. Monitor, record and report Supply Chain KPI's and develop recovery plans as necessary.
  • Ensure on-time completion of Supply Chain scheduled milestones relative to Outage and On-Line Work Management activities.
  • Influence and drive cost avoidance activities within the Supply Chain group that supports overall Corporate goals and initiatives.
  • Represent the Supply Chain organization by participating in the Action Request preliminary screening.

Minimum Requirements:
Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably with a Mechanical or Electrical emphasis. Must have experience with evaluating and solving engineering issues; professional engineering certification is preferred and a minimum 3 years of nuclear experience is desired.
Must live within 60 minutes to ensure proper implementation of Emergency Response plan.
A condition of employment will be successfully obtaining and maintaining General Security Clearance and a Nuclear Security Clearance for unescorted access to Xcel Energy nuclear plants including successful completion of nuclear General Access Training (GAT) and the nuclear security screening process (typically consists of an alcohol/drug screen, a criminal history check, a psychological assessment, initial credit and background investigation and periodic credit & criminal history checks).
