Job Description:
Provide centralized systems operational support, administration, installation and maintenance of telecommunications networks (e.g., telecommunications, UNIX operating systems, LANs, WANs, distributed processing and client server operations). Configurations (hardware and software) typically span multiple business functions and geographic locations. Support, monitor and administer the operation of networks including hardware and software (e.g., Ethernet switches, routers, hubs, bridges, network management system, operating system, middleware and network management applications) located at the PSEG locations. Monitor the operation of the network to ensure proper functioning of lines, hardware and software. Identify and resolve network problems utilizing structured troubleshooting methods, techniques and tools. Respond to network production problems 24X7. Responsible for the support and setup of key videoconferencing systems. May provide basic help desk support for the client areas, GOTV, and Direct TV in the Newark Campus. Perform ad hoc UPS support for field sites. Perform Move, Add, and Change requests. Participate with vendors and common carriers during problem analysis/resolution as required. Monitor and tune networks and system performance. Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures for the network, technical specifications and documents, drawings and systems documentation, and operating manuals. Assist in the evaluation of vendor proposals and the benefits of changes in hardware, communications, protocols, switching methods, access methods and tariffs, and in the procurement of software and equipment.

Required Skills, Competencies, Education or Experience:
•Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and at least two, typically four or more years experience in telecommunications network design, installation, operation and maintenance, or without a Bachelors degree, four to six years experience in telecommunications network design, installation, operation and maintenance.
•Broad knowledge of network hardware and software, network infrastructure and design, topologies and protocols, which should include experience with Cisco routers, switches, firewalls; wireless technology, network protocols, TCP/IP Networking and related cabling standards.
•Experience troubleshooting network communications including, T1's, Frame Relay, and VPN.
•Good analytical ability, sound judgment, communication skills.
•Excellent teamwork skills.
•Ability to work effectively with client and IT management, staff and vendors.
•Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Desired Skills, Competencies, Education or Experience:
•Experience with NERC-CIP or other regulatory compliance.
•Computer or network related certifications (ie., CISCO CCNA, CCDA, CCENT).
•Knowledge of network security configurations.
•Proficient with protocol analyzers.
•Customer service experience.
