Job Description
Overview:

This position reports to the Program Director – NERC Compliance Team and will have a primary responsibility to track Regional Entity expectations and variations in application of Reliability Standards and communicating those issues to other team members. This position is a member of the NERC Compliance Team who is responsible for coordinating and communicating all NERC Compliance issues across the five NERC regions that GenOn owns and/or operates assets. This individual will serve as the primary and/or secondary NERC Compliance team contact for an assigned region(s).

Responsibilities:
  • Identify specific existing and emerging details from the assigned NERC Regional Entities in which GenOn has business operations and communicate those issues to other members of the NERC Compliance Team or other employees to ensure effectively incorporated into compliance efforts.
  • Coordinate GenOn’s program to ensure compliance with all applicable NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Work closely with GenOn’s technical services, commercial operations, plant operations, IT and regulatory personnel to obtain necessary input and to facilitate compliance activities.
  • Ensure internal compliance requirements are accurately set forth in compliance procedures and disseminated throughout the organization.
  • Support periodic reviews of internal compliance procedures.
  • Maintain records necessary to demonstrate compliance and maintain a historical record of compliance activities.
  • Maintain database with deadlines and reminders to ensure timely submissions.
  • Develop and maintain business relations with NERC and Regional Reliability Organization personnel.
  • Coordinate and administer audits of the assigned NERC Registered Entities. These activities include in-person audits, table-top audits, spot audits, and other requests by Regional Entities to review GenOn compliance
  • Coordinate post-audit activities, such as responding to alleged violations and coordinate hearing efforts.
  • Coordinate self reports and mediation plans for the assigned NERC region(s)
  • Coordinate appeals of any violations or fines if assessed.
  • Be knowledgeable and coordinate the utilization of the software platform (CATSWEb AssureX) for audit and self certifications in the NERC region(s) assign.
  • Support and promote the GenOn Compliance Program
  • Assist in the development of awareness and training media for GenOn
  • Participate in the NERC Standards development process to communicate GenOn’s interests and concerns.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience :

All interested candidates should have a combination of the following credentials:

  • A degree (post-graduate preferred) in engineering, economics or business
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in power systems engineering, operations or planning is preferred; or an equivalent depth of experience in power plant engineering or operations
  • 1 year minimum working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards
  • Familiarity with and support for the competitive power sector

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Strong working familiarity with various elements of the bulk electric system
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of personalities and styles
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple, complex tasks
  • Strong computer skills, with emphasis on Microsoft Office suite of applications
  • Ability to coordinate a group of responses

Working Conditions :

  • Based in GenOn headquarters in Houston, Texas
  • Travel includes visits to company facilities where knowledge and following of safety requirements will be mandatory
  • Travel required across United States
