POSITION DESCRIPTION
AREVA Federal Services LLC, a subsidiary of AREVA, is seeking a Lead Structural Analysis Engineer.
The role of the Lead Structural Analyst is to maintain overall technical responsibility for the civil / structural / architectural disciplines, to provide direction to the Lead Discipline Designer (LDD) as applicable, and to support the discipline personnel. Develop and produce design performance requirements to meet or exceed technical, safety and quality standards, production schedules, cost and budget goals, and to comply with licensing requirements. Comply with corporate standards, project procedures and project guidelines for developing and issuing design criteria, deliverables, and documents that meet process design and licensing requirements, considering constructability, operability, and maintainability functions. Interact with the Site Interface Groups, as appropriate, and with engineering specialty groups relating to discipline conditions and needs when required, as well as providing a close interface with Regulatory Affairs, and the other Lead Engineers in support of the Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA). Produce and approve discipline related design documents and product deliverables in accordance with project procedures and guidelines. Develop and perform inter-discipline review of design criteria, facilities functional and operational requirements, system descriptions, and design basis. Identify specific activities necessary to produce desired design documents and provide necessary resource loading. Identify specific staffing requirements. Ensure compliance with project estimates and schedules. Ensure qualification of staff and that training is provided, including specialty requirements. Coordinate activities with other organizational members as appropriate. Perform special tasks as required by Engineering Management. Identify interface requirements and required provisions needed to be provided by the SRS Site M&O. Coordinate engineering interface with MOX Site Engineering Manager in supporting interactions with the SRS Site M&O.
COMPANY DESCRIPTION
Shaw AREVA MOX Services, LLC is a consortium of companies based in Aiken, SC and formed to advance the Department of Energy's mission to dispose of surplus weapon grade plutonium. The plutonium is disposed of by mixing it with uranium and forming a mixed oxide (MOX) fuel for use in existing nuclear reactors. After the MOX fuel is irradiated in the reactor, the plutonium can no longer be used for nuclear weapons. AREVA Federal Services provides resources to MOX Services for the design, construction, licensing and operations of the MOX Fuel Fabrication Facility (MFFF) to be built at the Savannah River Site. Resources provided are in the following disciplines: Licensing, ES&H, Integrated Safety Analysis, QA, Engineering Assurance, Process Engineering, Systems Engineering, Design and Engineering (Structural, Electrical, I &C, Seismic, Nuclear Criticality, Piping, Mechanical, HVAC), Project Safety, Procurement, Project Controls, Software Design, Training, Records Management, Operations, and Information Technology.

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • Bachelors Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering with minimum 10 years experience in responsible charge of technical nuclear design activities in the civil / structural / architectural discipline.
  • Professional Engineering License in South Carolina or ability to obtain.
  • Familiarity with design codes for concrete and steel nuclear structures.
  • Experience in interactions with NRC regualtors. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.
  • Advanced Engineering Degree.
  • Familiarity with siting requirements for nuclear facilities.
  • Familiarity with Seismic Hazard Assessment practices for nuclear facilities.
  • Familiarity with site and stormwater management design practices.
  • Experience working in a team with Architects and Architectural Designers.
  • Experience working in supervisory capacity in a multi-disciplinary design group.
  • Experience in maintaining effective working interactions with construction organizations (during construction).
  • Familiarity with DOE Cost and Schedule management systems.
