Overview:

Summary:


The General Accounting Staff Accountant (“Staff”) is primarily responsible for ensuring a timely and accurate close process, including preparing schedules and information for internal and external reporting and auditors. Responsibilities include: entries related to cash and other general accounting, account reconciliations and GAAP and SOX compliance. The Staff will work with other departments to ensure that correct accounting treatment is followed.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties/Responsibilities :

  • Performs monthly, quarterly and year-end close process within a condensed time frame.
  • Prepare and record all cash and cash equivalents journal entries.
  • File and process escheat claims and other unclaimed property to/ from various state government agencies.
  • Prepares Bank and other account reconciliations while resolving issues related to reconciling items timely.
  • Prepares schedules and other information to facilitate filing of consolidated 10-Q and 10-K.
  • Prepares variance analyses and communicates findings.
  • Prepares quarterly analysis of corporate allocations to determine if material changes from prior quarter.
  • Assists with the documentation and testing of internal controls to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley policies and controls.
  • Prepares audit schedules on an as-needed basis, for annual audits and quarterly reviews with external auditors.
  • Performs all aspects of work with a high degree of effectiveness, efficiency and accuracy.
  • Participate in additional special projects as required.
  • Future rotation into several roles including:
    • Preparation and recording of all debt and Interest-related entries
    • Preparation and recording all accruals related to legal services, workers compensation, audit fees, etc.
    • Work directly with the Payroll Accounting Department to ensure correct accounting of all payroll costs and related employee benefits.
    • Accounting for corporate operating and capital leases.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Four-year college degree in accounting from an accredited college or university required.
  • CPA certification required.
  • 3 to 5 years full-time accounting experience required.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Oracle and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) a plus, but not required.

  • Strong analytical, computer, and problem-solving skills;
  • Skilled in performing financial and analytical computations.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team oriented environment.
  • Adapts effectively to new and changing environments.
  • Works well as part of a team and takes ownership in projects;
  • Strong communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to use computer keyboard and office equipment.
  • Normal office environment
  • Willingness to work hours outside normal schedule, as needed.
