Job Description
Overview:

Genon is currently seeking to fill a Trading/Marketing Analyst position for our Corporate offices in Houston. This position is responsible for asset based power settlement estimates, and compiling data for forecasting and variance reporting. Additionally, the position is responsible for reconciling P&L with back and middle offices, analyzing P&L to assist in the optimization of power and fuel operations and the settlement of various contracts affecting the regional asset portfolio.

Responsibilities:
  • Calculate daily P&L
  • Coordinate with settlements group to identify and reconcile gross margin variances
  • Provide analytical support for portfolio optimization
  • Leverage problem solving, data manipulation and analytical skills to address specific business requests
  • Collect, review, maintain and analyze information obtained from various groups throughout the company and other data sources to support settlements, forecasting, and variance reporting
  • Assist in monthly preparation of variance reports and forecasts
  • Assist in development of fundamental / historical analysis for commercial group
  • Analyze settlement impacts of commercial decisions on generation portfolio including capacity sales, hedges, optimization, and originated transactions
  • Identify process improvements and best practices to enhance effectiveness and efficiency
  • Prepare management presentation reports as required
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis upon request
  • Collect and analyze data pertaining to power plant output, efficiency, outages, the transmission system for use in system optimization
  • Other responsibilities include the design, development and maintenance of spreadsheets and tools that support energy settlements, forecasting, and variance reporting
  • Interact with the plants, Real Time and Day Ahead asset optimization, settlements group, risk management group, traders and power/gas schedulers
  • This function requires knowledge of internal and industry software systems
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • The candidate must have a Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.

  • Must be able to work in a fast paced and stressful environment, where organizational and decision-making skills are essential in handling a multitude of tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (emphasis on Excel) with strong analytics and problem solving skills
  • Self-starter who can work with little direct supervision once project ownership or a task has been assigned
  • Organizational skills a must - able to execute multiple tasks/projects at a high level of quality
  • Strong work ethic and be able to work effectively on cross-functional business teams; is seen as a team player
  • Results oriented - must be multi-task oriented with ability to handle high/extreme pressure situations
  • Ability to act independently
  • Develop creative Excel solutions to aid daily work and special analysis projects
  • Analyze and evaluate complex energy transactions
  • Solid background in quantitative analysis and an understanding of profit and loss calculations
