Job Description
Overview:

The Safety Engineer is responsible for implementing safety and health programs within the day-to-day facility operations with a focus on injury prevention and regulatory compliance. Motivates and influences all level of employees to plan and execute every task in a fashion where safety is the first consideration. Coordinates with management of the facility on regulatory interpretation, timely internal and external reporting, and overall safety and health compliance. Conducts internal safety and health audits and incremental inspections of the facility to ensure compliance. Investigates causes of accidents and incidents then makes recommendations to ensure the prevention of recurrences. Evaluates the effectiveness of safety programs, designs improvements and works with management to implement identified improvements. Evaluates, develops and may assist with delivering training programs to improve skills in the safety aspects of employees' jobs.

Responsibilities:
  • Influence and motivate others to work in a safe manner.
  • Coordinate compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
  • Communicate safety requirements to managers and employees
  • Implement the company’s Safety and Health Management System
  • Willingness to travel within the requirements of the position
Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor degree required
  • Minimum 5 year full time Safety experience
  • Ten years of full time safety experience may be substituted for Bachelor’s degree

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in power plants or related industries
  • Certificated Safety Professional, Occupational Health& Safety Technologist, or Certified Industrial Hygienist
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to work with minimum direct supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication Skills
  • Must possess functional computer skills specifically in Microsoft Office software
  • Basic understanding of occupational health and industrial hygiene principles
  • Ability to positively interact with regulatory agencies
  • Ability to interact effectively in a team environment and with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to compile, analyze, and interpret data.
  • An understanding of the factors that influence human behavior.
  • Ability to conduct incident analyses
  • Ability to prioritize tasks within a fast paced dynamic environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • For consideration in this position the individual must possess the physical ability to:
    • Stand, walk, climb ladders, bend, kneel, crawl, pull/push and lift up to 25 pounds
    • Perform work both indoors and outdoors, occasionally in adverse conditions
    • Wear job related personal protective equipment (PPE)
    • Occasionally work at heights and enter enclosed vessels or confined spaces.
