Solar Energy:

Job Description:
AREVA Solar is seeking a Manager, Construction.
The Manager, Construction, AREVA Solar, will be a part of the Industrial Organization reporting to the Chief Industrial Officer (or VP, Construction). He/she will focus on construction methods, best practices and cost reduction/schedule optimization for the CLFR steam plant (boilers, BEP and BOP) and power blocks (and other solar technologies, as required).
Design for all facilities will originate in Product Engineering and Projects groups. Project construction and site management personnel will be part of Projects. Key individuals in AREVA Solar will be designated specialists in SSG installation/construction methods for SSGs/BEP/BOP. They will report functionally to the Manager, Construction (or VP, Construction) with their PDAs, STIs, salary administration, training and career planning managed there. They will be assigned to projects as required and, during that time, will report day to day to the Project manager with a functional tie to the Manager, Construction (or VP, Construction). On project assignments, input on PDAs and STIs for that period of time will be done by the Manager, Construction (or VP, Construction) with the Project Manager's input.
The Manager, Construction will also develop capabilities for regional construction planning, scheduling and estimating who will work with Tendering and Project Estimating in development of indicative, budgetary and firm proposals.
The duties of the Manager, Construction will be:
· Develop standard approaches to construction/installation for steam plants and power blocks.
· Develop construction work instructions (analogous and consistent with SSG/BEP Assembly Guidelines / EWIs) covering construction approach, quality, safety, codes, licenses, standards and all information adequate to develop construction scope documents suitable to obtain fixed price construction bids.
· Develop construction strategies for target regions (Australia, India, MENA, RSA and the US) including development, training and qualification, with Supply Management, of qualified local construction and/or EPC partners.
· Assist Manufacturing in construction-related issues for the coatings plants and manufacturing modules/transformation.
· Develop strategies to systematically reduce construction/installation costs for small and large steam plants, and power blocks, by improved methods and innovative partnering.
· Coordinate with the BG Industrial group in Paris on construction-related matters.
· Coordinate, with HSE, QA and Business Process Improvement, the development of construction FMEAs, procedures and tools that are consistent with corporate guidelines.
· Perform constructability reviews of all projects.
· Oversee preparation of internal BU and BG management reports as relates to construction.
· Participate in SOC and other internal meetings for construction-related issues.
· Actively participate in the SSG5 construction as the test bed for new construction approaches.
· Support Kimberlina and SSG5 Operations and Maintenance, as necessary.
· Oversee development of PMI/PMO (with Business Process Improvement) excellence and procedures in support of Projects.
· Oversee development of templates for construction management guides in support of Projects.
· Develop and maintain, with Projects, necessary construction licenses.
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • Engineering degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • At least 10 years experience in site construction management roles
  • Has a "hands-on" approach: proven experience that shows candidate is willing to jump in to perform detailed tasks
  • Ability to develop strong interpersonal networks within the organization
  • Understanding of process/power plant construction costs and schedule issues.
The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.
  • Formal Project Management (PMI or above) qualifications are an advantage.
  • Possible need for Arizona GC license for transfer to AREVA Solar.
  • Multilingual (English a necessity; French a plus)
  • A strong commitment to workplace health and safety particularly as it relates to construction sites.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and client relationship skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels throughout AREVA, and with Clients and Contractors.
  • Excellent 'presentation' with the experience and stature to gain credibility.
  • Project Management Professional qualifications are an advantage.
