Job Description
The Manager of Transmissions Line Performance will be responsible for managing the overall performance and life-cycle of the transmission lines across all Xcel Energy operating regions. The successful candidate will work in conjunction and cooperatively with Transmission and also Operating Company management to:
  • Lead the development of medium and long-term performance goals for transmission line reliability and performance, and the establishment and implementation of action plans to close the gap between current and targeted performance levels.
  • Lead the development of systems and methods to monitor and analyze the health of the existing transmission line fleet, to prioritize the replacement of aging and obsolete infrastructure, and to prepare the associated budget and project requests to initiate system replacement.
  • Direct the development and administration of programs for the inspection and maintenance of transmission lines. Ensure that portfolios are created in accordance with developed transmission inspection and maintenance programs and procedures.
  • Ensure the performance of benchmarking activities within the utility industry to understand industry best practices for the performance of transmission lines, including reliability, maintenance, and replacement. Champion the inclusion of best practices throughout the enterprise.
  • Manage the efforts to maintain a system for the identification, analysis, and resolution of common vulnerabilities within the transmission line environment. Drive efforts to ensure that action items resulting from the system are addressed within the recommended timeframe.
  • Participate on the Transmission Line Standards Council and also represent the company in industry committees and conferences pertaining to transmission line performance and asset management activities.
  • Lead the continued development and direction of the Transmission Asset Management System (TAMS) and the Transmission Line Inspection and Maintenance Management System (TLIMM)
Summary
Applies visionary and strategic leadership in directing the activities of the Transmission Maintenance & Reliability Assessment organization. The position is responsible for the development and administration reliability maintenance planning and tracking programs for transmission line and substations. Develop and implement a comprehensive reliability program complete with metrics and national reliability benchmarking. Develop, track and communicate program: expenditures, regulatory reporting, and resource requirements.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Manages the maintenance programs; develops the program budgets, monitors results, and ensures alignment with organization and corporate objectives. Directs development and coordination of short and long-term maintenance programs to ensure system reliability & efficiency.
  • Establishes requirements for service level providers and field maintenance resources to ensure program's cost effectiveness and value.
  • Coordinates maintenance activities with internal and external organizations in supporting the business objectives. Coordinates and is responsible for contracts associated with maintenance of the transmission facilities. Stays abreast of new technologies and current industry practices. Provides benchmark analysis involving maintenance and reliability performance.
  • Prepares and sponsors Federal and State maintenance compliance filings.
  • Ensure maximum utilization of human resources by promoting teamwork, diversity, safety, customer orientation and development of individual potential.

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Licensed PE (Professional Engineer) certification
  • 7 years of transmission maintenance and/or equivalent experience that includes a minimum of 3 years supervisory/management or project lead experience
  • Strong organizational, communications, leadership and analytical skills
  • Considerable travel required


Preferred
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
