Project and Proposal Engineering (PPE) :
Project and Proposal Engineering (PPE) is responsible for leading Product Engineering participation in proposals, commercial projects and internal projects including coordinating product readiness, prototype construction and retrofits at demonstration sites.
Job Description:
AREVA Solar is seeking a Project Engineer I. The Project Engineer is responsible for the technical aspects of project implementation, including the specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of CLFR boiler components. This position reports to the Director, Project Engineering or the designated Project Manager. Each commercial project, major product design, and construction activity will be assigned a Project Engineer from the PPE group.
Responsibilities and duties include:
  • Ensuring product designs are done in accordance with the DELIVER product life cycle management process.
  • Preparation and coordination for product gate reviews.
  • Ensuring that product design and project activities are done in accordance with engineering procedures.
  • Representing Product Engineering in all project reviews.
  • Keeping the Chief Engineer informed of all significant project issues and activities.
  • Developing and maintaining the schedule for all engineering deliverables.
  • Risk identification and mitigation.
  • Coordinating responses to RFIs.
  • Action tracking for all engineering open items for each project.
  • Tracking and closure of FMEA items and other technical issues.
  • Primary point of contact between Product Engineering and project management.
  • Ensuring compliance with project specifications, applicable standards and local practices.
  • Preparation of client submissions and proposals.
  • Specification and management of engineering consultancy packages including FEED studies.
  • Coordination with delivery engineering for balance of plant engineering, foundation and civil works, Boiler External Piping stress calculations and isometric drawings.
  • Technical interface with local customers, contractors and authorities.
  • Configuration engineering for specific opportunities and projects.
  • SSG layout.
  • P&IDs.
  • Valve specifications for AREVA Solar Engineering design scope.
  • Providing on-site technical support to construction and commissioning activities.
  • Participation as a member of the commissioning team for local projects.
  • Preparing calculations, designs and drawings as required.
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering plus 7-10 years (Bachelors) or 1-2 years (Masters) work experience.
  • Experience in steam power plant design and construction (steam turbines, vessels, piping, valves, control systems, equipment and piping supports, electrical equipment and systems).
  • Experience working on solar thermal energy projects (design and field work).
  • Knowledge of ASME codes and standards.
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptability and desire to work in an international context.
  • Ability to clearly explain and document work.
  • Ability to work in a solar field to assist with construction, commissioning, and inspection of equipment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.
  • Registered Professional Engineer is preferred but not required.
  • A good knowledge and understanding of various CSP technologies are a plus.
  • Previous experience working in the solar renewable energy field.
  • Field construction experience and associated contractor work coordination.
TRAVEL
Sporadic (10%) domestic and international travel to project sites, including the existing Kimberlina Solar Power Station in Bakersfield, CA. Project sites may be worldwide with associated international travel.
