Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant is looking for a Senior Radiation Protection Technical Advisor. This position is aaccountable for the in-field application of policies and procedures relating to applied Radiation Protection programs. Is responsible for assuring that the Radiation Protection Department maintains strong programs through proper monitoring, assessments, and evaluation of data. Is responsible for the compliance with regulatory requirements for programs such as instrumentation, respiratory protection,dosimetry or other technical programs, and training of the Radiation Protection staff necessary to improve station and departmental performance. Prairie Island's two pressurized water reactors generate about 20 percent of the electricity used by Xcel Energy's customers in the Upper Midwest. The plant is located on a 520-acre site about 40 miles southeast of Minneapolis-St. Paul and about five miles north of Red Wing, Minn. Nearly 800 people are employed full-time at the plant. On June 27, 2011, the NRC renewed for 20 years the plant's original operating licenses, authorizing the Prairie Island units to continue generating electricity to 2033 and 2034. Essential Responsibilities
Owner of the Sites Ground programs such as instrumentation, respiratory protection,dosimetry or other technical programs . Ensures that these programs meet the standards set forth in the guidance documents and maintains site exposure as low as reasonably achievable.
Participate in Business Planning, Budget and Business Performance review regarding RP and the site. Fulfill managerial responsibilities regarding assigned staff). Ensure consistent and effective work force practices through assigned supervisors/functions.
Assist the Plant Health Physicist and Radiation Protection Manager in developing, reviewing and implementing department procedures and policies, and assuring that these documents meet all federal and company regulations.
Attend Peer meetings to assure that industry best practices and standards are being implemented effectively and uniformly across all sites.
Accountable for ensuring that department activities, priorities and resources are being managed effectively.
Providing Critical observations and feedback to site and departmental staffing to foster continuous improvement.
Fill a position in the OCC or act in a supervisor role during outages.

Degree and a minimum of 5 years professional level experience at a nuclear reactor facility or minimum of 10 years professional experience in radiation protection at a nuclear reactor facility. Must be able to complete as part of job function.
Must be technically knowledgeable of regulatory and industry standards. Successful candidate will be required to live within 30 minutes of the nuclear plant in order to meet the Emergency Response Plan requirements. | |
