Job Description:
AREVA is seeking an Engineering Aide for our Transnuclear location in Columbia, MD.
Responsibilities and duties include:
  • Performs analysis to check applicability, accuracy and reasonableness of data.
  • Performs a variety of technical tasks to assist engineers in the performance of their duties.
  • Extracts and compiles engineering data, processes computer data using specified formulas and procedures.
  • Performs routine analysis to check applicability, accuracy and reasonableness of data.
  • Prepares rough drawings and sketches and lists of materials following standard practices from instructions furnished by engineers, designers or other technical employees.
  • Performs design under general Engineering supervision.
  • May perform CAD (computer aided design) design.
  • Scan/copy drawings and provide other general administrative support activities as needed
  • Assists project engineers and periodically take the lead in smaller projects on design, procurement, fabrication, installation and start-up
  • Assists plant and maintenance engineers and periodically take the lead in special areas involving equipment repair, troubleshooting, instrumentation, preventive maintenance procedures, spare parts, and dealing with vendors
  • Proposes process and manufacturing improvements and may take the lead in implementing them
  • Writes project status reports and/or publishes test results
  • May require testing, data acquisition and data analyses
  • To play an active role in creating a safe and healthy workplace and comply with all applicable safety and health rules.
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • High School diploma with 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area or 2 year technical degree plus 3-4 years of related work experience in the field or related area.
  • Familiar with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of quality assurance procedures and project based concepts.
  • Must possess basic math skills.
  • Knowledgeable of intermediate computer operations including spreadsheets, word processing, data basing, and e-mail.
  • Must be able to bend, climb, stoop, and lift up to 25 pounds.
The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.
  • Appropriate or related technical experience with equipment, processes and control systems used in plant, field or research applications. Knowledgeable of project engineering practices and selected electrical, mechanical and chemical equipment applications, equipment and processes.
  • Preferred ability to generate CAD drawings, if applicable and using corporate standard software.
  • Familiar with corporate drafting standards.
  • Ability to interpret drawings.
  • Applicable math and analytical skills.
  • Be familiar with the company's safety and health policy and program.
