Job Description:
Transnuclear, Inc., a subsidiary of AREVA and premier provider of storage and transportation of spent nuclear fuel and other radioactive materials, is seeking an Engineer III. The position will be based in Columbia, MD. This qualified individual will be responsible for:
  • NUHOMS Dry Shielded Canisters (DSCs), NUHOMS onsite transfer casks, TN metal storage casks, and transport packagings:
    • Prepare the procurement specifications and drawings, review fabrication documents (drawings, routers, welding, inspection and test procedures, etc.
    • Prepare design changes and non-conformance evaluations as required during fabrication
    • Provide technical direction and oversight to the fabrication subcontractor.
    • Contribute fabrication and design know-how to product improvement and the development of new products.
  • Support client power plant operations with these products, including use of the automatic welding system for field closure, vacuum drying, and helium leak testing.
Typical Projects Your Group May Work On include:
  • Fabrication of spent nuclear fuel dry storage and transport systems for delivery to commercial nuclear power plants.
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • BS in Mechanical, Welding or Materials Engineering/Engineering Technology plus 3-5 years of engineering experience. An advanced engineering degree may be substituted for related work experience (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.).
  • 3-5 years experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • ASME Code Section III (nuclear) pressure vessel design or fabrication.
    • ASME Code Section VIII (chemical, refinery, etc.) pressure vessel design or fabrication.
    • ASME Code Section XI repairs, replacements and modifications to nuclear power plants (steam generator replacements, reactor pressure vessel head replacements, etc.).
    • Design or fabrication of containers for spent nuclear fuel storage or transport
The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.
  • Work experience with ASME section IX welding procedures.
  • Work experience with ASME section V non-destructive examination.
  • Work experience for a pressure vessel fabricator.
  • Work experience with machining, forming, fixturing, welding, and control of weld shrinkage.
  • Work experience applicable to CFRs pertaining to the nuclear industry.
TRAVEL:
Periodic travel to fabricators in US, Europe and Asia including India, South Korea, and Japan and to customers; estimate 2-3 weeks per overseas trip.
