The AREVA Reactors & Services Business Group:
The Reactors and Services Business Group combines the nuclear reactor design and construction activities and the products and services activities necessary for the maintenance, operation, modernization, and improvement of power plants. It also includes vessel propulsion nuclear reactor and research reactor activities. AREVA is currently constructing four EPR™ reactors, of generation III .
Radiation Protection:
Radiation Protection is a component of the Environmental, Health, Safety and Licensing group. The EHS&L group is essentially tasked with responsibility for oversight of the safety of the facility, personnel, public and environment via compliance with various federal and state regulations and other applicable licensed or permit requirements. The core components within the EHS&L currently are licensing, safety, radiation protection, environmental, transportation and security.
Job Description:
AREVA is seeking a Health & Safety Technician.
Responsibilities and duties include:
  • Protects the employees, the public and the environment from the effects of ionizing radiation through the performance of license and procedurally required tasks.
  • Performing radiological surveys and completing related documentation.
  • Uses various surveillance instrumentation.
  • Calibrates and maintains portable radiological survey and laboratory instruments.
  • Performs environmental sampling and analysis.
  • Monitors and maintains the internal and external dose program.
  • Performs personnel decontamination.
  • Prepares and receives radioactive material shipments.
  • Posts and controls various areas requiring radiological controls.
  • Ensures work is performed in a safe manner, in accord with the ALARA philosophy and in compliance with work permits.
  • Carries out directions of the Radiation Monitoring Team Captain or Emergency Officer in the event of an emergency.
  • Monitors the transfer of material, equipment and personnel across radiological control boundaries.
  • Thoroughly survey and assess areas in respect to dose rate and contamination levels.
  • Solve math problems using the algebra and the natural log function.
  • Plays an active role in creating a safe and healthy workplace through compliance of all health and safety rules.
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • Health & Safety Tech I - High school diploma with 0-2 years experience and complete the fundamental Health Physics courses.
  • Health & Safety Tech II - High school diploma with 2-4 years experience and complete the fundamental Health Physics courses.
  • Health & Safety Tech III - High school diploma with 5 years experience or Associate Degree in Biological or Physical Sciences with 4 years of applied health physics experience.
  • Strong customer focus, be able to make timely decisions, good problem solving ability and a strong team player.
The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.
  • Be familiar with the company's health and safety policy, procedures and program.
  • Prior radiation protection experience is a plus.
  • Completion of fundamental health physics course a plus.
Travel
Sporadic (<1%) domestic travel may be required to participate in a technical course if not offered locally.
