Job Description

Position Summary: Manage the design, property acquisition construction and maintenance support of major electric transmission and substation facilities, and direct the performance of complex electric utility system engineering, design, short circuit studies, and other design assignments requiring a highly developed knowledge of the electrical engineering discipline and use of highly developed professional judgment.

 

 

 

Education

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering required. Advanced degree in engineering, or business preferred. Registered or eligible to become a Registered Professional Engineer in the state ofFlorida.

Experience

A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in an electric power utility (or a related industry), including a minimum of five years of engineering design experience in the transmission, substation, and/or protection and control fields. Professional registration as an engineer inFloridamay substitute for one year of experience. An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering may substitute for one year of experience. A minimum of three years of supervisory experience is required.

Abilities

Must have a thorough working knowledge of the design and construction methods related to transmission and substation facilities. Ability to work with computer models, simulation tools and design software required. Must have a thorough knowledge of appropriateFlorida, RUS, FERC, NERC, and FRCC standards and regulations. Must be capable of effectively managing and directing multiple projects and complex activities associated with transmission and substation design and construction. Must be able to manage and direct engineers, construction coordinators, engineering assistants and other technical personnel to ensure the timely completion of assigned projects within budget and schedule constraints. Must be capable of preparing and submitting permits required for the construction and operation of transmission and substation facilities. Must have good written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to provide specific training and mentoring to subordinates, as may be required. Must be capable of developing departmental and project budgets and effectively managing expenditures.

Working

Conditions

General office working conditions. On site inspection duties involving overnight trips may be required. Occasional travel to locations for meetings with FERC, NERC, FPSC, FRCC, Seminole Members, consultants, vendors, and equipment suppliers is required. Work outside regular schedule may be required. Must possess a validFloridadriver's license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
