The AREVA Reactors & Services Business Group:
The Reactors and Services Business Group combines the nuclear reactor design and construction activities and the products and services activities necessary for the maintenance, operation, modernization, and improvement of power plants. It also includes vessel propulsion nuclear reactor and research reactor activities. AREVA is currently constructing four EPR™ reactors, of generation III .

Job Description:
AREVA is seeking a R&D Software Engineering Manager for our R&D Software Group in Meriden, CT. This position oversees the execution of the R&D projects entrusted to the Meriden R&D Software Group, and mentors the project leads in charge of these projects. You will be responsible for planning the activity for the Meriden R&D Software Group, planning the resources necessary for ongoing and forthcoming projects, and maintaining the staffing plan for the team.
Responsibilities and duties include:
  • Oversees execution of the projects, supervises and mentors the software leads in charge of the different projects.
  • Controls the status of the projects of his portfolio: progress of ongoing activities, estimate of the labor remaining to complete the projects.
  • Makes sure that project variances are controlled, identified, and that corrective actions are undertaken.
  • Provides directions and support to the project leads in charge of the projects.
  • Ensures that the development process complies with the company standards (e.g., gate reviews, quality & auditability, version control …).
  • Proposes the yearly budget for his group.
  • Approves indirect expenses per company policy.
  • Ensures that his group expenses keep within defined budget.
  • Mentors and develops the team from a technical as well as from a productivity standpoint. Also mentors the software leads from a team management standpoint.
  • Defines individual objectives and conduct the yearly appraisal of the member of the Meriden Software Group.
  • Plans and assign the resources necessary to the execution of the R&D projects assigned to the group.
  • Maintains a staffing plan for the Meriden software group.
  • Mentors the Technical Leads and develops the Agile Methodology deployed within the Organization. Acts as an Agile Coach for the teams when needed. Prescribes a methodology to bridge the gap between high-level vision needed during execution and the day to day planning and sprint executions.
  • Provides technical support to customer-presentations and sales activities related to software products.
  • Provides technical support for the preparation of responses to tenders involving the use of deployment of software products.
  • Actively participates in the improvement effort of the software development process.
  • Conducts appraisals for 12 employees.
  • Participate actively in promoting and enhancing processes within software team and more widely within BU.
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • BS Degree in Engineering or a science-related field. A minimum of 12 years of related work experience may substitute for a degree.
  • 10 years of experience in software engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of software development process.
  • Proficiency with PC-based applications such as MS Office.
  • Proficient in appropriate programming languages/tools like: C , C#, Visual Basic, ASP, Java, PLSequel, WEB 2.0, etc.

  • Expertise of software development processes, and good knowledge of software technologies.
  • Mentoring of engineers and of project-team leads.
  • Ability to establish good relationships with internal and external counterparts.
  • Ability to communicate and clearly report team-status and project-portfolio status to upper management.
  • Ability to identify and organize resources needed to accomplish tasks; ability to monitor performance against deadlines and milestones.
  • Ability to build and follow a team budget, understanding of project reporting mechanisms.
  • Ability to change priorities quickly, confront issues directly and interact with all levels of Business Group, staff, and management.
  • Demonstrated capability in the preparation of reports that are appropriate for either senior management or technology developers.
