This position receives guidance and oversight from manager. Typically does not perform the work at the level being supervised, but will have individual technical and business related assignments in support of department goals.

Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of engineers and technicians in single or closely related fields of professional expertise. Accountable for formal supervision, coaching, counseling, safety leadership and technical guidance to assigned staff in support of producing high quality, timely and cost-effective solutions to technical and business objectives. The position is also accountable for the technical quality of the group’s output and is expected to continuously improve capabilities in this area. Primary Responsibilities 1. Lead, direct and/or assist with organizing and prioritizing work group activities and assigning and/or scheduling work duties to meet completion dates. Review work of assigned staff, and perform operations and maintenance work (as applicable) within the work group's area of responsibility.

2. Evaluate subordinates for the purpose of developing organizational talent and build expertise in areas required by the department. Develop leadership skills and coordinate technical training aspects for self and group members.

3. Work with other sections/departments on cross-functional technical and business teams, working groups or improvement committees to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and /or company.

4. Assist in the development of changes in methods or processes in assigned area of responsibility, and make recommendations for implementation. Assist in the completion of preparation, monitoring and forecasting of the department budget. Assist in the coordination of development of section and department goals and metrics.

5. Supervise, direct and provide guidance to engineers and technicians. This position normally reports to a section or department head. Conduct performance assessments and salary reviews for assigned staff. Interview and recommend candidates for employment or responsible behavior policies.

6. Research and analyze technical and/or business plans, designs, proposals, projects or strategies; provide results and/or recommendations in support of department objectives.

7. Review, revise and communicate Department/Section/Group procedures in support of administrative and technical improvement initiatives. Responsible for the application of organizational policies. Elevates and reinforces a strong safety culture within the work group, through daily leadership, communication and behaviors.

8. Sets priorities to ensure task completion and coordinates work activities with other supervisors, acting as a liaison with other sections or departments. Candidate Qualifications Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration. Basic Qualifications 1. Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university accredited by ABET, or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent. (Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements.)
OR
Professional Engineer license in the specific position discipline.
2. Five years experience in technical area related to the function of the work group.
3. Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for the specific position. Preferred Qualifications 1. Bachelor's Degree.
2. Professional Engineer, registered in Pennsylvania preferred.
3. Comprehensive knowledge in one or more areas of expertise is desired to function as a technical leader for important departmental processes.
4. Comprehensive knowledge of department programs, policies, procedures and business plans.
5. Demonstrated ability to provide technical direction to technical and non-technical personnel.
6. Ability to apply comprehensive technical knowledge in supervision and in the completion of assignments.
7. Sound judgement and strong initiative on resolution of issues.
8. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and databases.
9. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
