Job Description

Position Summary: This position reports to assigned Senior Technician and is responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance and operations of Midulla Generating Station in accordance with approved plant maintenance, operations, and environmental procedures.

Maintenance Specialist II Environmental/Water and Instrumentation is qualified via the Environmental and Instrumentation Qualification Standards.

Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.  Completion of a formal, accredited or certified maintenance craft training program is desirable.  Additional college level coursework in math and science desirable. Completion of the Plant Technician II qualification standard is required.

Experience

1) Prior Instrumentation and Controls and Environmental/ Water experience in an Electrical Generating Station is required.

2) Prior I&C and Environmental/ Water experience in a Combined Cycle Plant is desirable.

Ability to qualify and maintain competency in the following skill set is required:

Additionally, the ability to qualify and maintain competency as Plant Technician   II is required. Competency will be demonstrated by a combination of written exams, oral boards and completion of practical demonstrations as required by the qualification standards. Must have the ability to become fully qualified to perform the aspects of plant Instrumentation and Controls and Environmental/ Water maintenance. Must recertify annually on skill qualifications. Must have the ability to function effectively as a team member. Must exhibit an ability to perform and lead crew members in work requiring a high degree of skill and expertise, to instruct less skilled personnel and assume a high degree of responsibility; must be able to communicate orders and instructions in a manner that will generate effective and efficient work performance. Must be alert, resourceful, and capable of making correct decisions in emergencies. Must possess a working knowledge of process instrumentation and controls pertaining to a combine cycle plant. Must be able to comprehend and seek resolutions to complicated problems. Must have the ability to understand and follow highly technical written and oral instructions. Must have the ability to read schematic and electrical drawings. Must have the ability to assume a high degree of job responsibility. Must be able to receive and transmit orders and instructions in a manner that will generate effective and efficient work performance with associates.

Working

Conditions

Will work in all areas of the plant site, both indoors and outdoors.  Will work a rotating shift. Will be expected to access all areas of the plant for inspection, operation and maintenance. Entry into confined spaces is required. Working conditions may include accessing equipment at heights of 150 feet, areas of high voltage, high pressure high temperature fluids, compressed air, high pressure hydraulic and rotating equipment.  Hardhat, work shoes, NFPA 70E compliant clothing, and safety glasses must be worn in the plant.  Other personal protective equipment required as indicated by hazard analysis.

 

Essential Functions:

 

1)      Reports to and takes direction from the Senior Technicians as assigned.

2)      Ensures safe, effective, and efficient maintenance of the plant during assigned shifts. Complies with safety rules & procedures; uses safe work practices and behaviors.  Report all safety concerns.

3)      Complies with Environmental, Health & Safety Guidelines, and all operating permits and regulations.

4)      Maintain Plant equipment in accordance with all approved maintenance procedures.

5)      Effectively utilizes approved casualty procedures, including the Emergency Response Plan.

6)      Assists the Operations Specialists and Senior Plant Technician as assigned by maintaining Plant Technician operating skills to support the operation of the plant as required.

7)      Maintain and troubleshoot all (Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls, Mechanical, Environmental, and Water) plant equipment, and maintain electrical/instrument-control/mechanical, environmental, and water documents in support of that goal. The completion of identified routine and abnormal condition job standards for each of the skill sets is also required.

8)      Conducts and receives a thorough turnover when passing on or receiving duties from another Maintenance Specialist.

9)      Coordinate and monitor assigned contract personnel activities during maintenance outages or projects.

10)  Identifies plant deficiencies, initiates work orders and completes same as assigned.

11)  Maintain plant maintenance documentation as needed or assigned.

12)  Document plant conditions and occurrences.

13)  Assist in the training and qualification of new Maintenance Specialists.

14)  Completes required initial and recertification training as outlined in the appropriate qualification standard.

15)   Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual checks and maintenance of plant CEMS.

16)  Collect data as required for reports.

17)  Assists in site permit compliance testing.

18)  Perform checks an periodic maintenance of site oily water separators.

19)  Interface daily with management and Environmental Engineering groups keeping them aware of ongoing          issues.

20)  Interface with vendors and contractors in performance of environmental functions.

21)  Perform daily checks of plant Hazardous Waste and Oily waste storage areas.

22)  Arrange off site disposal Hazardous and Oily waste.

23)  Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual checks of site Tanks and Containments

24)  Perform daily site walk downs to verify compliance with SECI EHS rules and procedures.

25)  Prepare reports for internal distribution.

26)  Train plant technicians in environmental functions as required

27)  Develop procedures related to environmental functions

28)  Other task as assigned related to MGS and SECI environmental programs

29)  Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual checks and maintenance of plant water analyzers.

30)  Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual analysis of plant chemistry.

31)  Keep daily logs of water plant equipment and plant chemistry parameters

32)  Report abnormal conditions to on shift supervision

33)  Track chemical inventories and initiate re-orders when required.

34)  Interface with vendors and contractors in performance of water plant/ chemistry functions.

35)  Maintain and operate water plant systems.

36)  Prepare reports for internal distribution.

37)  Train plant technicians in water plant and chemistry related functions as required

38)  Develop procedures related to water plant/ chemistry functions.

39)     Must know how to properly use and operate all necessary I&C measuring and test equipment.

40)  Must know how to properly use and operate all necessary hand and power tools.

41)  Performs calibrations and preventive maintenance of instrumentation and controls as assigned.

42)  Perform instrumentation and controls trouble shooting and repairs and as required. This includes the locating and repairing of defects in control systems involving electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic units which control level, pressure, temperature, position, and flow parameters.

43)  Troubleshoot and correct problems related to the T3000 and other plant control systems or PLCs.

44)  Performs the necessary software, firmware, and hardware repairs in order to maintain plant systems utilizing programmable logic controllers, personal computers, and data loggers.

45)  Maintains and repairs Plant CEMS equipment and software.

46)  Traces logic diagrams, corrects errors, compiles reports, and forces points as directed by the Plant Senior Tech.

Effectively utilizes control and wiring diagrams in order to effectively troubleshoot control issues.
