Our Siting and Land Rights department has an opening for a Geospatial Associate or Analyst in Amarillo. Position Summary Analyze geospatial data from imagery, various databases, utility mapping and other sources to support the planning, siting and maintenance of Xcel Energy facilities. Use geography, remote sensing, spatial analysis, GIS and the social and physical sciences to create information, characterize events and discover relationships and trends that may impact project outcomes for land appraisal efforts, long range planning, facility siting and environmental analysis. Creates and presents data via electronic and 3D imaging methods as well as incorporate into maps, tables and graphs. Assist with research, development and implementation of geographical systems that allow for successful data collection for various studies and programs. Uses descriptive and predictive analyses and communicates the results, meaning and significance as written, visual and/or oral geospatial information. Participate in the evaluation of tools and creation of customized methodologies and applications. Essential Responsibilities - Provide mapping, drafting, GIS and graphics support for land use permitting and acquisition activities from beginning to end of project, including data and imagery acquisition and use. Interface with project teams and environmental planning consultants to ensure data and imagery quality control.
- Updates and maintains system maps, map books and other cartographic products used within Xcel Energy. Researches, acquires and integrates data related to planning, siting, acquisition and management of electric transmission and generation facilities and properties.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining accurate geo databases, converting data formats and coordinating system parameters, collecting GPS field data, geo-referencing raster data and other geo-processing tasks.
- Provide spatial information analysis and data for other projects within Siting & Land Rights, and for asset planning, other GIS teams, business units and department supervisors.
- Prepare maps and graphics for public information meetings, presentations and executive management presentations.
- Assist with advanced geospatial analysis and data integrity issues for hardware/software.
Minimum Requirements - Degree in cartography, geography, GIS or surveying. Combination of relevant education and experience totaling a minimum of 8 years may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with GIS projects required.
Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS technologies - ArcGIS Desktop, ArcReader, ArcExporer, Spatial Analyst, GEODatabase, and ArcGIS Server technology preferred. Ability to use imagery and acquire electronic data preferred. Experience with Autodesk Autocad Map 3D a plus. - Thorough understanding of spatial data and spatial referencing. Advanced knowledge of GIS technologies and ability to work with aerial photography.
- Demonstrated knowledge of commercial imagery products, processes and sensors. Demonstrated MS Word, PowerPoint, database entry and graphic design skills.
- Attention to detail - precision and accuracy are necessary for quality information and reports.
- Strong computer skills are required and ability to work outdoors in various terrains is required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and customer support skills required as well as ability to work independently with minimal or no oversight.
