Job Description
Overview:

This position is accountable for directing the Electrical & Instrument maintenance process in the station to ensure availability of equipment and maximum generation at the lowest possible cost. This involves directing the planning of E&I maintenance activities and the coordination of the necessary resources to accomplish that objective.

The incumbent supports the Supervisor – E&I Maintenance in the development, implementation, and administration of the maintenance strategy to achieve the objectives identified in the Business Plan. The position is responsible to ensure all aspects of employee safety including implementation of safe work practices and promoting safety awareness.

Responsibilities:

An associate degree in electrical engineering with eight (8) years of relevant experience is desired. In lieu of a degree, the incumbent should possess a minimum of twelve (12) years experience in E&I maintenance-related applications. A thorough knowledge of company policies and procedures, environmental regulations and the collective bargaining agreements is required, in addition to an in-depth knowledge of station systems and processes in both operations and maintenance areas.

The incumbent must thoroughly understand process controls and computer systems, including hardware and software. Excellent interpersonal skills and communications skills (oral and written) are required, in addition to sound motivational, teamwork and leadership qualities.

Qualifications:
  • The incumbent directs the daily maintenance work process to ensure the safe and effective use of manpower through the implementation of the Shared Leadership Work Team concept and the timely completion of projects. He/she is responsible for supervising the dismantling, repairing and assembly of all electrical, control and instrument apparatus, systems and tools used in the plant. He/she analyzes problems and operating deficiencies and determines repairs required, operating procedures to be followed while repairs are being made, and specific procedures to be followed by the crews performing the repairs.
  • Reporting to this position are sixteen to twenty (18-20) employees. This group consists of the following positions: DCS Technician, CEMS Technician, and E&I Technician. In addition to GenOn personnel, the incumbent will be required to direct the work of groups of contractors in new construction or repairs. The incumbent will advise or direct the Technicians to further enhance the planning effort within the maintenance process. He/she will develop the skills of the Technicians and expand the DCS/E&I Technicians' understanding of the controls system.
  • The incumbent instructs subordinates of safe work practices, enforces Company safety rules and regulations, investigates accidents and reviews accident reports, and does monthly safety observations. The incumbent also trains personnel in the operation and repair of complex electrical equipment and instrumentation and in the proper use of various tools and test equipment.
  • The incumbent maintains records on plant electrical, control and instrumentation equipment and related systems in order to analyze future maintenance requirements. He/she also maintains an adequate inventory of spare parts and prepares requisitions for material, supplies and tools.
  • The incumbent has a working knowledge of the labor agreement, and he/she analyzes minor union problems, handles first step grievances and takes corrective action when justified. The position uses good human relations techniques to maintain a harmonious and productive atmosphere among all subordinates.
  • This position requires the application of advanced electrical and mechanical knowledge. A high degree of skill in the fields of electrical and electronic theory is essential to direct the maintenance and repair of complex electrical and electronic devices and systems. The incumbent must possess significant ingenuity and versatility to independently solve problems as they arise. He/she must place priorities on tasks and assign personnel in a judicious manner to provide economical, reliable service.
