Job Description
Xcel Energy Services Inc. is currently seeking 2 Knowledge Base Consultants to work in the Public Policy and External Affairs department. One position is located in Denver, CO and one position is located in Minneapolis, MN. Qualified candidates will have a Bachelors degree and a minimum of 7 years related experience.
Summary
Responsible to design, implement, maintain, and improve a centralized company-wide Knowledge Base which will house key data, information, presentations, and other resources to support employee outreach and engagement. Build and utilize strategic partnerships with business units across the Company to gather key data and information that relays a company wide policy position on energy issues and trends. Review, analyze, and evaluate data/information and policy to synthesize and incorporate into the knowledge base. Partner with leaders within the business areas to develop and deliver impactful metrics and other analytics based on industry trends and issues. Monitor policy alignment, working closely with Public Policy and Communications. Gather and translate technical information/data into a format that is understandable and persuasive to the broad employee base as well as aids users in decision-making processes. Is technically proficient to determine how best to store and display the information in a manner that is user friendly.
Responsibilities
  • Strategic: Consults with leaders across all jurisdictions on identifying key data and information that is useful for their business area to enable strategic decision-making. Performs research as it relates to issues and trends and develops impactful messages and stats for leaders to understand the Company's position and to utilize during policy/strategy development, legislation considerations and investment decisions. Build and maintain an internal and external network of contacts to validate assumptions and perform ad-hoc studies on behalf of the Company.
  • Communication: Partner with executive leadership to integrate data/information and develop key messages for Knowledge Base incorporation, Public Policy consideration, and further communication strategies as needed. Is resourceful in acquiring and translating technical information into a format that is understandable and persuasive to the broad employee base and assists users in the decision-making process. Develops graphics and charts to communicate data and the Company's position.
  • Program/Project Management: Lead a team to develop and continuously improve processes which enable capturing key information regarding the Company and peer group. Performs timely reviews of data/information and ensures accurate entry into the Knowledge Base system. Continuously monitors messages and data to ensure alignment and questions potential inconsistencies for further information refinement. Ability to proactively develop solutions to identified gaps, gain buy-in by executive leadership and team, and develop and implement the solution in a comprehensive manner.
  • Information Technology: Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts throughout the Company to gather and anticipate business and system requirements for the Knowledge Base. Responsible for the development and organization of a user friendly system for employees to retrieve and interpret data and information. Responsible for content management, information indexing, system workflow and rule publishing of how information should be presented. Partner with Business Systems to implement requirements in a user friendly format.
Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Information Technology, or related field
  • 7 years related experience
  • Background in Regulatory or System Implementation/Information Technology AND one of the following is preferred: Finance, Communications, or Operations
  • Strong project management, analytical, verbal and written communication, and problem solving skills
  • Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Must understand the complexity of the energy industry/regulated utilities and have strong business acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external partnerships/network of contacts to perform needed research for executive review and decision-making is required
  • Requires travel of up to 2 to 3 times a month
Preferred
  • Advanced degree
  • MS Excel, Database, and PowerPoint skills are a plus
  • Demonstrated IT related skills to design/maintain a system
