Solar Energy:

Research & Development:

Research & Development group is leading the design for Solar Thermal Storage within AREVA Solar. This is an exciting, agile, fast paced operation with challenging delivering schedules to design our new project platform.

Job Description:

AREVA is seeking a R&D Mechanical Design-Experimentalist to assist with the design of new components for the AREVA Solar Thermal Storage System.

Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Works to prototype and test complex mechanical design tasks using new materials operating at high temperatures.
  • Work with suppliers to design cost effective fabrication.
  • Works to design tests and experiments to prove the required mechanical functions of various components.
  • Works with the team on FEMA analysis for mechanical parts.
  • Collaborates with the design team to incorporate the components into the final product.
  • Works with part drawings and documentation in CAD (SolidWorks).
  • Verifies required tolerances for key features of mechanical parts.


All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.

  • Degreed Mechanical Engineer.

  • 5 years work experience as designer / analyst / experimentalist.

  • Familiarity with ANSYS and Solid Works are a must.

  • Experience with turning Mechanical components or products designs into working prototypes.

  • Experience with designing experiments to test parts for mechanical issues - thermal growth and expansion, shielding, support.

  • Hands on skills with mechanical parts is a must.

  • Superior communication skills as a high degree of collaboration will be required..

  • Understands GD&T.

  • Part of a team that shipped a commercial product.

  • Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes including stamping, welding, machining.

  • Experience building and testing systems with glass, metals, ceramics, adhesives, seals.

  • Strong background in instrumentation, measurement and control.




The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.

  • EIT, PE or Masters Degree preferred.

  • Experience designing commercial products a plus.

  • Experience with sheet metal design is a plus.

  • Solar experience a plus.

  • Experience with electrical wiring.

  • Troubleshooting.

  • Building systems with mechanisms, controls.

  • Reliability testing experience.




TRAVEL



Sporadic (10%) domestic and international travel to collaborate with engineers and inspect product behavior in the plant environment.
